I actually think that Golovkin was willing to dump the WBC strap, but Loeffler convinced him to fight Canelo now..... rather than waiting until after they broke Hopkins record
and the reason is money..... the additional 7.5%, which would be removed from the table if Golovkin had not accepted
if Golovkin denied Canelo the opportunity to set the record straight..... Canelo would fight Jacobs, and realize that he does not need Golovkin at all..... especially with interest from fans dying if the fight did not happen now
just a guess, could be wrong..... but if I am right, then Golovkin was not 100% committed to this fight.... which does not bode well for September

the reason why Canelo gave in to Golovkin's demands.....
you casuals who have decided to INSIST that Canelo was juicing..... and are using this opportunity to COMPLETELY throw him under a bus..... are going to be bringing a knife to a gun-fight in September lol
there is a DAMN good reason why Canelo cut off one of his fingers to make the rematch
FACT: Canelo will be clean in September
FACT: Golovkin will go life and death with him (again), most likely losing
1) the better fighter will make the better adjustments..... and as we all saw in the first fight, the more-skilled more well-rounded fighter..... is Canelo
2) Canelo will be better/stronger at the weight
3) Canelo will be much more confident, having had a real good look at Golovkin for 12 rounds..... and he will have a more-tailored gameplan, because he has a better corner
4) boxing is a young man's game
and imho, Canelo will CLEARLY win the rematch
you muppets who are thinking..... Canelo WAS juicing, so Golovkin will definitely win..... have not even thought about it, and are known as dumb-money
I am absolutely positive that Canelo 100% believes that he can beat any man at 160..... and that he is very confident about winning the rematch.....
the dude is an OUTSTANDING fighter, clenbuterol did not do that
you will see
and then you will understand why he just cut off one of his fingers to make that fight
