Lol, the film and footage on Sugar Ray Robinson is not film from his prime. He was even better than the film and footage you have seen. Think about that.

This is not even a question. The answer 100 times over is Sugar Ray Robinson.

We don't have no footage of a prime Ray Robinson when he was at welterweight/middleweight!

From the books and excerpts they said, he had everything!

Lightning speed, footwork of a dancer, Lightheavyweight vaunted power, smart, endless stamina, and used moves that were ahead of his time!

Roy had it all except fundamentals and chin!

        Green K for you sir

"But I understand they come from different era's of nutrition/training ideology, so it's really not a fair comparison"....

So sick of this dribble from kids who have never trained, fought or watched the past greats fight!
Sick and tired of hearing this sh*! about not seeing Robinson at his "best"!
We don't have welter bouts showing Sugar displaying pure boxing!
As a middleweight he began "fighting" out of his boxing style because he learned in his first LaMotta fight you can't just box there are times in a fight when you have to FIGHT!

There are 25 years in between Sugars start and stop.
There are plenty of film from 1949 to his retirement!

Roy Jones does NOTHING better than Sugar, when Jones flashed hand speed it's just flashes! There is no power and if you think he lands on Sugar the way he lands on "normal" fighters your nuts!

By all means tell me about the new training ideology and methods.

            Ray

I am ready to get verbally abused. I'll give Jones a slight edge. Jones chin seemed strong in his prime and this question is prime against prime. Roy's chin got weaker later, past prime when Tarver and Johnson both cracked it. Robinson could be knocked down and out too. LaMotta had him flat on his back at the count of 9 when the bell saved him from a certain KO loss. Robinson was held to draws in the middle of his prime. Jones won all his fights by large margins in his prime. Robinson lost by a wide margin to an unranked boxer named Tiger Jones at the age of 32 just slightly past prime. It's a defeat he never reversed.

Ray Robinsons resume leaves RJJ's in a quivering mess on the floor. No comparison.

In a H2H, Jones was too big and skilled to go with it for SRR to get to him. Jones was a LHW in his prime in the day before weigh in era. Robinson barely got above 160lbs on fight day for the whole of his career.

Im not someone who just thinks about weight, but you have to factor it in. Jones is probably naturally 3-4 modern weight classes bigger, and also one of the most gifted fighters of all time. Sure he outboxed Maxim, but Maxim imo was concious of the heat and knew that Ray couldnt last fighting like he was fighting. Robinson hit Maxim with some absolute haymakers, punches that had starched guys from WW to MW, and he didnt even blink.

Robinson was maybe the goat, but that doesn't make him superman.
