If GGG fights Murata I think he will be paid more than Canelo will get paid for fighting Spike. Oscar is not as much the A side and holding all the aces as he seems to think he is. GGG has attractive options besides getting paid less than he is worth to fight Canelo again.

      Don't assume.

Montero writes for Boxing News and Ring Magazine.

He said he also works in finance per very recent YouTube video.

How much do you think freelance writers get paid?

Canelo didn't hold the WBC Middleweight title at the time he fought GGG because GGG did so it can't have been Canelo's mando. I just kinda assumed the WBC allowed the fight to fulfill Golovkin's mandatory requirement, which yes, I agree shouldn't be allowed, but hey... we all know what those fuckers are about.
The WBC mandated Canelo fight GGG but Canelo vacated. When he actually fought Canelo it wasn't a mandatory.

          It actually should be
          1. IBF Wade
          2. WBA Jacobs
          3. WBC passed
          4. IBF Sergiy

Ah, yeah, get you, and you are correct. The WBC didn't sanction GGG - Canelo as a mandatory as I thought (and as they do actually have the discretionary right to do) but merely waived Golovkin's mandatory obligation for this cycle (the sly dogs give themselves discretionary right to do anything they please) and made the fight a voluntary defense.

Per their rules a titlist should defend against a mandatory at least once a year - except at their discretion...smh.

I think it's actually within 9 months if a fighter wins a vacant title except at their discretion

New years eve in Japan sounds about right. Seems they always have a good card going on that night.

Sections 3.1 - 3.6. New titlists are supposed have 90 / 120 days til their first defense and defend 3x /year but this includes voluntaries I think. Best I can tell mandos just once per year from the get go regardless of how they got the tile, unless I missed something.. What's most amusing though is that every single article contains that phrase 'sole discretion' which basically means they can do whatever the hell they please, slippery bastards.
