Uhhh.....Wrong! Depends on what you value. Good defense or hard punching. I like Taylor and I like Winky, but Taylor was backed up by Wrights jab and contrary to what he was told to do he did not punch out of the corners very often. When he did his shots mostly landed on Winkys gloves. Doesn't sound like a recipe for winning to me. HBO commentating is very much backing Taylor you should agree to that.

Don't discredit Hopkins simply because his era lacked many big stars in the division, that's bull****.

***** move, are you ****ing serious??
His last three fights have been against the top fighters in the world.
      Number 1 and number 2 p4p.
Im going to have to officially charactize you as a Taylor hater from now on.
You can charactize me as whatever you want, but you couldn't be farther from the truth. I actually have high hopes for Jermain Taylor and espected to see him take on some other top level competition. If he needs a break that's fine, I just hope that when he comes back he ends up taking on the kind of competition that will help define him as the next great Middleweight champion.

I know you're very new here and all, but how is this cowardly? He fought Hopkins TWICE (#1 p4p fighter in the world at the time) and goes straight to Winky Wright (#2 p4p fighter in the world). What is your problem? Or are you just so new you don't understand the significance of Taylor doing all of this so early in his career?
I think he should be taking on other top fighters, if he needs a break that's fine but I have high hopes for the kid, that's all. And I'm really not all that new, new to boxingscene.com yes, but I've been watching boxing for 10 years so I wouldn't consider myself a newbie. I just don't have the acclaimed "status" that a man of your stature has on these boards

if you've been watching boxing for 10 years, then you would know that no fighter has ever taken on the #1 and #2 guy in the world consecutively. you would also know that all champions deserve an easy defense soon thereafter. Lewis, Hopkins, Roy Jones, Holyfield, Tyson, De La Hoya, Trinidad, ALL OF THESE NAMES TOOK ON WEAK FIRST DEFENSES OF THEIR TITLES WHEN THEY BECAME THE MAN. THIS IS BOXING. Welcome.

Yeah if you'll compare him to his competition you can certainly say that. Look, Bhops 47-3-1 (#1 p4p); Wright 50-3-1 (#2 p4p) Taylor 25-0-1 25 ????

That's why I like the guy. He is young, got a fighting heart and never gets intimidated. And for people who really love this sports, I don't see why they'll hate on this guy, except of course insecurity.

The kid does need a break. Taking on Hopkins twice and Wright right afterward is admirable for any fighter. That's one thing I'll say about Taylor, he's willing to face the best...that's old school. He just needs to refine his skills a little and Steward will do that. After 3 extraordinarily tough fights, he does need a breather.

I think Taylor needs to get away from Steward. Steward's fighters have a history of bad stamina. I think he overtrains them sometimes. Or he gets them so fired up that they overtrain themselves. Either way...Taylor seemed to have more energy vs Hopkins, and he shouldn't have been as tired as he was vs Wright considering Wright's lack of power.

Maybe it was just Taylor's being under pressure that made him gas a bit though. Hard to say at this point...

Well, you gotta remember, Taylor's only been with Manny for like 6 weeks. You've got to give it time. Taylor's right was much better against Winky than it was against Hopkins, IMO.

I think that could be attributed to Hopkins' better defense. Winky has a high guard, but him just standing the way he does and also being a southpaw makes Taylor's right hand more viable.

But yeah, maybe Taylor does need more time with Manny. We'll see. I hope there is a rematch.

you and others are creating a myth that taylor was back up with the jab, and lets be honest, taylor chose to back pedal. and winkys jab was not effective.

let me ask you somthing did you honestly see the fight? because when i seen the fight again i noticed lampey and company were very biased toward winky instead of taylor the house fighter as some say.

if winky had a guard in the taylor fight it was taking lots of punchs, cause basicly this was winkys guard - catching punchs on his face

Dont try to call Taylor a ***** for taking on the best opponents in the world for three straight fights and asking for a breather.
                      Your contridicting yourself.
Hopkins in your sig who has 2 big wins and faced decent opposition, yet you criticize Taylor for wanting a fight in his hometown when you dont even know who the opponent is yet!!!
