This announcement would have more credibility if it were coming from Canelo's camp. I would not be surprised if Loeffler made the statement that a fight with Canelo was all but a done deal as leverage to have the IBF let Golovkin keep the title without first fighting Derevyanchenko. IBF will get more revenue for a Canelo v GGG fight than a GGG Derevyanchenko fight and will get zero revenue in fees if they strip GGG of the title.

This a smart move by Loeffler, if a bit disingenuous. The key is he has that: there’s a “structure in place” for an agreement. Of course, there is. It is called contract negotiations, but that does not mean that the fight is about to be announced.

I also find this interesting: "There is, for sure, a structure in place for it to take place – basically for it to be rescheduled from the May fight to the September date.”

What happened to GGG's insistence that he was done wrong and had to make all the concession and would not do again. This basically says that GGG will accept the same terms and conditions as before.

There's no way in hell he'd fight Sergiy. Way too much of a low reward high risk situation. (Of course Im just guessing though. He just hasnt shown signs of involving himself in those kinds of fights in the last 4 or 5yrs).

he just fought a supposed killer in his first fight at 160

you just described why Golovkin avoided Derevy

in saying that, you could be right..... because guys like Saunders/Charlo will probably land a Canelo fight before Derevy

not sure about the IBF, but the WBC did exactly that when they ordered the Cotto/Canelo winner to face Golovkin

I agree but I never thought Canelo would want a tune up. He's young, in great shape, in his prime, and he wants to get his hands on Triple g for everything he's said the past two months.
Plus I don't ever see Canelo taking a tune up. He's the biggest star in boxing so he's above tune ups and he knows this.

Ooohhh. I see what youre saying. I thought you meant they will make GGG fight sergiy even if he didnt win. My bad.

Youre right though. WBC did that exact same thing.

And the IBF never done that before so I have ZERO clue if they can do that.

I like that idea. Or....have ggg give it up while he fights Canelo and have sergiy vs (jacobs, charlo, andrade) while GGG gets automatic 1st dibs at the winner in a chance to win it back. Similar to the wbc & Thurman deal.

              What you think?
