I wouldn't be surprised if someone in his team was thinking along these lines.

That being said, I do believe he wants the fight.
Anthony Joshua never has to fight in the US, tbh. If he's content with being a star in Europe, he can ride out fighting at Wembley or at Principality or any other stadium in Europe. He'll be a richer Joe Calzaghe, but he'd still be Joe Calzaghe.

Deontay Wilder gives Anthony Joshua a chance to launch in the US and globally, without having to take short money while he builds.

Wilder is a PPV fight in the US (have assumed that they run it at least twice); there's not another fight with Joshua that's PPV currently, or likely to warrant PPV in the near future.

If the Wilder-Joshua fights deliver the audience expected, every Joshua fight will get the big push expected on Showtime, with the biggest fights (Povetkin, Fury, possibly Yoka in the future) drawing consideration for CBS.

that's never been a question, really. it's plain that eddie wants this fight in the states and next year. they'll make the most money that way

if joshuya / wilder delivers teh way big, prime, talented, hard punching HW fighting each other should deliver, they will be household names int he states overnight. this place is absolutely starved for a dominant, exicting, young HW champion. doesn' teven have to be an american! really! was pacquiao american, or was he asian, small, a novelty, an a killer?

AJ looks 6 foot 3 in these pictures, shorter than I expected, and that's a big deal going into the superfight.

          It would be legendary/
I think that's the camera angle. Steph is 6'3". We've seen AJ fight Wladimir, who is 6'6". They appeared to be about the same height.

Africa would only make sense if there was some issue with fighting in the UK (Sky Box Office can still run events from Nigeria or Johannesburg, since the time is the same or no worse than an hour difference).

35,000 at MKO Abiola Stadium (in Ogun State, near where his mother's family is from and where Joshua's apparently purchased a lot of property; an hour outside of Lagos), 60000 at National Stadium-Abuja (500 miles away from where Joshua has a base; basically akin Andre Ward fighting in San Diego, with the difference that Anthony Joshua is an adopted star of Nigeria (while acknowledging the issues between the North and South of the country, with Abuja being in the North)), or 90000 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg (think 'Rumble in the Jungle'; neither fighter being South African, but both being men of African descenr), against fighting at Principality Stadium or Wembley.

With Wilder having no issues with fighting in the UK, moving the fight to Africa is an extra hassle, tbh
