The network deal will have to be on more than a handshake.
Idk if I can see that happening. Although I suppose I could see a indefinite handshake deal between Showtime, or Espinoza specifically anyway, & Haymon. I feel like if Espinoza lost his job tomorrow or just quit than Haymon might be up sh^ts creek with this Showtime thing.

The question I wanted to ask is based on a statement by haymons lawyer saying this. "Haymon Sports were intended to, and actually did, increase competition in the boxing industry, to the benefit of the boxers, other promoters and the fans"

Is it really a coincidence that the UFC and eddie hearn are going after haymon (usa) fighters and getting into the boxing business (in zuffas case) after PBC was created?
I think Haymon had positive effects & impact on boxing. Anytime you bring in some new ideas & competition you make things more interesting more often than not. But idk if there is a W to be had for Haymon even if boxing has likely gotten a W from Haymon's risk.

Although that might sound too negative cuz I think Haymon is gonna be a boxing bad ass as long as he wants to be, but idk about all these big contract, 100M+/year sorta TV deals being in the cards the way things are looking.

This is one dirty fughin business
Most deals are made outside the boardroom
In front of beautiful women and a lot of juice
Haymon is very shady in his dealings , no one really knows what’s what
But imo he did get boxing back on tv and that lead to other promoters to do the same
Now not all his cards are good without doubt but it’s still on cable and the casual fan can see it
With that , it’s only a positive for boxing
Television is not going nowhere folks , it will always be there because the state or government as you please , need a platform into your fughin living-room for their own propaganda etc etc etc
It’s always gonna be there and people will always pay for it so better to have it on
My point is this can force the promoters to stage better cards , thus making the casual fan a little more involved and gaining notoriety
Look at UFC , even a casual knows fighters cause they were on Saturday night

No. Haymon took the risk, and his efforts have helped show that there's a way to present boxing in a way that's palatable and easy for the general audience.

Declutter the ring (notice how ESPN have insisted on keeping the in-ring presentation down to the ref, ring announcer, fighters, and the chief second/trainer, with everything kept out of the ring; representative from the commission, maybe, but that's it), seven-second delay in the corners, etc.

Zuffa and Matchroom USA may be openly oodling fighters in Haymon's pool, but no one's moved yet.

Depending on who came in, yeah for sure; luckily for Haymon, Les Moonves (CEO/Chairman/President, CBS) is also a fan of boxing, so whomever would be brought in to replace Espinoza would likely still be interested in boxing. The relationship with the new guy will have to be sussed out, but Haymon would have a chance to see what was what.

Still, beyond that, Haymon has a reputation for good relationships with TV people. HBO hates him, but everyone else that has done business with him has walked away alright.

            Time will tell, I guess

Being a fan of the handshake deal Haymon has with Espinoza & a fan of boxing aren't mutually exclusive I'd say doe.

"has a rep for good relationships w/TV people, but HBO hates him" is kinda a hilarious statement there.

I definitely think Haymon's "style" is pro fighter to the point of perhaps being anti-network in some cases. It certainly sounded like his relationship with HBO was like that. Idk if he had something out on HBO back then or if he's since adapted how he operates to avoid such blowback now.

              Time will tell, I guess
              Yep.

As a person whos hopeful & optimistic of this PBC thing since the early days I just see less to be hopeful & optimistic about.

NDA's have been signed, Hearn's first 2 cards for DAZN are done. DAZN let Hearn have his announcement first, but they have a much bigger announcement coming at the end of June.

So you're suggesting some names are on dotted lines already?

That would definitely lean me into thinking Keith Thurman is one of those names. Although Hearn better have a backup for Thurman's card...just in case lol.

Hes saying DAZN first got in touch with him a couple of weeks after Jacobs signed with HBO, so October. Been working on this for 7 months already. All that time he said he had fighters calling him was to do with this, as HBO made it clear pretty early that theyd never be able to give him full reigns.

Saying he didn't get the money last week and DAZN said go see what you can do. First 2 cards are pretty much done. Said DAZN are going to be really aggressive in what they do, want to take out the competition. Whole cards will be shown, not just 1 or 2 fights, build up shows. Another deal will be announced to take it up to 50 shows (probably WBSS), will pursue all other international cards that wouldn't normally be shown in the US.

Nice strategy by Dazn. I think thats what you gotta do. There needs to be some blood shed OUTSIDE THE RING in boxing. Some cats need to go basically. Let the strong survive & the weak die.

There a video out there where Eddie talking about this for 62mins with IFL or something like that? I'd love to hear more about it.
