    2 things

Unlike PBC, Hearn doesn’t have to buy air time with his money, that’s a lot more money that can be spent on purses.

Also, Hearn is contracted to put on 3 more events on HBO this year and then a further 8-12 in 2019, so it seems like there could be a conflict of interests there.

If they actually provide an avenue to conveniently watch Japanese pro sports (especially baseball) in the US that would definitely get them some attention, but Japanese Baseball and Boxing isn't exactly going to blow the doors down.

I really don't see how they're going to gain the marketshare.
        Good Questions.

Japanese Baseball means nothing in America.

Americans only want the BEST, they don't want inferior quality. Thats why the XFL never worked because Americans knew it wasn't up to the quality of NFL.

Brands like HBO are built via quality programming and loyalty to the brand.

The American market is an absolute monster to get a piece of the pie in and many companies have spent Billions trying and failing to do that.

DAZN won't be around in the American Market for longer then 24 months...i'd be surprised if they last longer then 12 months before they abandon it and go back to the Markets they know.

The Biggest problem for DAZN isn't going to be the boxing side of it but all the rest of the TV Programming they have to schedule.

To compete with subscrption sites like HBO, Netflix, Amazon, Showtime etc you have to create quality content and that takes years to do and there's only so many Good content creators out there so they're going to be left with the bottom scraps.

Boxing is already a niche sport in America and already has HBO, SHOWTIME, ESPN, Fox and other broadcastors showing Boxing...flooding the market with more Boxing isn't the way to go.

Anthony Joshua means nothing in America and there's no Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pac around.

The other stars like Canelo, GGG and Lomo are all signed with other Promoters so guys like Charlos, Broner, Spence and Thurman just don't cut it.

This deal isn't close to 1 Billion and never will be, its just a number that sounded good and Hearn always knows most of his fans believe any BS they're told.
          Are you ok frank ?

          Sounding awful negative there pal

You guys said Eddie ain't **** without AJ. Yet he has just secured an 8 year contract without even needing to secure his name.

No, Matchroom USA don't have Mayweather, Loma or Canelo or any other PPV attraction. But investing into boxing in the US means it's only a matter of time before he does. Lots of fighters will look to build their careers with Hearn and get good money in the process.

But if you think that you are gonna recoup a billion waiting for Americans to pay for Another streaming service from a British dude with no major stable. You are definitely drugged out. And what's with you anyway? Hearn isn't putting money in your pocket. Why are you excited about his money? You Brits are doing back flips and high fiving each other like Hearn annouced a major fight and is paying you or something. Hooray! Jacobs MOra 5 on DAZN.
What we give Hearn, is substantially less than what you all pay for your content. Despite all your negative british stereotypes which shows your lack of constructive thought.. lets have a conversation

Our PPV prices are a quarter of the size.. we're already happy about our premium content prices when theyre placed in relation to Americas.

Whop is going to need to recoup billions? the deal is for 1 billion over 8 years, they need to recoup per annum costs of 112 million, thats 5.6 milllion one month subscriptions, so that requires 466,666 people out of a country of your size to pay for 1 year. Not easy.. but also doable considering the content that could be provided which leads me to the next point..

no major stable, YET. Theres been rumblings for years of fighters being unhappy.. not feeling they get what they deserve, not getting TV time or waiting in the doldrums to fight. You only have to look at some of the stateside comments on here to know theres possibility of Hearn picking up major fighters in the USA.

If he gets that stable, by offering more money and better fights and more exposure...then what are ESPN, HBO and SHOWTIME going to show when theyre fighters are all in the Matchroom / DAZN stable? and whos going to pay to watch nothing? nobody.. so theyll pay for DAZN and become cable cutters..

As for my excitement, im excited for boxing in general. If you want to keep providing payment for multiple networks, exorbitant PPV prices and "advisors" who advise fighters to not fight.. pay them to not fight and even worse relinquish their titles, then thats on you.

It’s live sports, the content is already curated, this is just a new distribution channel, the NBA and NFL can push their content anywhere they like.

The real opportunity here is not even in the US, it’s the global market of billions that can’t access showtime or HBO easily.

A lot depends on how they execute but I wouldn’t be too quick to disregard DAZN, their timing is about right, fighters need a platform and they seem to know the digital media business.

What will be interesting to see is whether Dana White jumps on board or even TMT, if they do this could blow up.

Not sure why they paid a billion, 99% of Hearns fighters unknown in the US, and even the Americans are not superstars.

He does not have the talent to put on 16 cards that will matter, he will have the money, he will have the TV time, but he won't have any fighters Americans care about, and that includes AJ, who registers piss poor numbers on Showtime.

This deal is a big nothing, doubt the agreement sees year 3

HBO's boxing broadcasts seem to draw an absolute minimum of about 500,000 viewers, coincidentally almost the number of new subscribers that DAZN will need in order to recoup its investment on boxing (500,000 people paying $20 per month for eight years = just under $1bn). With just under $8m to spend on each show, you have to expect that DAZN's boxing product will rapidly eclipse HBO's and then I guess most people who pay for HBO specifically for its boxing content will simply switch over rather than maintain both subscriptions. I think this deal could spell the end of HBO's involvement in boxing, as they are clearly the most vulnerable competitor right now. Hearn being the architect may feel like a bit of a knife in the back considering they were the ones to bring him over to America in the first place
