I Didn't include any link to begin with, then I decided to edit my post and drop one in. I guess I must have worded my search differently the second time and a different link showed at the top of the results, which I just copied and posted.
Sorry, but I was on the booze last night!
The article I read first clearly says that TV money and sponsorships will be added to the prize money, and the winner will get just under £20million. The article I linked to says something completely different.
I've just been checking reports on the prize money from different sources. Some say the winner will get 20million and others say the 20million is the total pot for all 16 fighters, so I don't know what to believe now.
But I do find it difficult to believe that there will be no extra TV income cut payed for fights as big as Groves/Eubank in the UK and Usyk/Gassiev in Europe and Russia.Last edited by kafkod; 05-10-2018, 07:23 AM.Comment

Whoops ... I linked to a different article than the one I read before I posted my comment, which was this one:

And WBSS promoter Kalle Sauerland has insisted that those figures will not change depending on pay-per-view sales: the prize money is decided in advance and agreed upon in black and white.
"We have invested a lot of money to try and not be too like boxing," Sauerland said.
"If you look at Wimbledon, would Roger Federer get a bonus because Swiss TV paid extra? He'd get prize money, like fighters will here."Comment

lol, alright no problem, but I tend to believe the other source a little bit more, because they have a quote right out of Sauerlands mouth, that there wont be extra income.

That's the gross total for the whole tournament. I don't care how they split it amongst the boxers. There no way the winner is getting 20 mil , that has to be a cumulative payment amount from start to finish if you win all three fights.Last edited by Removed Now; 05-10-2018, 11:33 AM.Comment

are you claiming the winner is winning 20 mio pounds in total now or not?
according to the first source, the winner is definitely not earning 20 mio in total.Comment

Let's look at some sources:
GEORGE GROVES and Chris Eubank Jr are two of Britain’s very best boxers and will face off in a much-anticipated clash this weekend with plenty of honour - and prize money - at stake.
A look at what the Eubank vs Groves purses were as part of a larger prize fund that proved to be a great tournament for boxing.
The last one is the only one stating that the winner gets just under 20 mio pounds.
The other three sources are stating that the overall purse fund for the whole supermiddleweight tournament is short of 20 mio pounds.
=> Every purse add together from each fighter adds up to short of 20 mio pounds
The details:
Final has a purse of 6,5 million pounds. Winner gets 4,3 and the loser gets 2,2 million pounds.
The semi final have a purse of 3 million pounds for each fight and split down the middle.
=> The total purse for the semifinals is 6 mio pounds.
Quarter finals: So we have 20 - 6.5 - 6 = 7,5
7.5 million pounds are left for the quarterfinals. Assume everyone gets the same, it is
7.5 / 8 = 0,9375
Lets rounds this number up to 1 million for the purpose of easier numbers.
The total purse for the winner according to the sources, should be:
4,3 + 1.5 + 1 = 7,8 Million pounds => 10,6 million dollars
The winner of the WBSS supermiddleweight tournament earns around 10,6 million dollars.
Now quick look how the purses compare:
Most popular A-side guys on Showtime are earning around 1-2 mio dollars.
Lara (1 mio) Vs Hurd (500k)
Wilder (2,1 mio) Vs Ortiz (500k)
D. Garcia (1,25 mio) Vs Rios (500k)
Over at HBO:
Rungvisai (250k) Vs Estrada (100k)
Golovkin (1 mio) Vs Martirosyan (225k)
=> Those participating in the WBSS are earning significant more than most guys in boxing and thats why they were able to get 4 champions in the cruiserweight division and are close to get all 4 champions for the bantamweight tournament.Comment

Dont want to continue this discussion longer than necessary.

Then who started the rumor about 20 million pounds????
So maybe there is a language barrier. 10 Million dollars divided by 3 ( three total fights) is $3.3 million dollars per fight. That's good money. However i still believe Groves should not fight un healthy and lose his belt.Last edited by Removed Now; 05-11-2018, 07:22 AM.Comment
