Comments Thread For: Lomachenko vs. Pacquiao Still Possible For 2018, Explains Arum

Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) will look to become a three-time world champion by taking the title from WBA lightweight belt-holder Jorge Linares on Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden in New York. And on July 14, eight division champion Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) will challenge WBA "regular" welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia.

Crawford is really the odd man out in all of this. It's crazy that Loma is going to get a shot before TC.

It will be very interesting to see what's there for him after Horn, b/c no top PBC WW will be on ESPN anytime soon. Espinoza would never approve that.

"(Pacquiao) has been talking to me for awhile now about fighting Lomachenko and he indeed wanted to fight Lomachenko rather than Lucas Matthysse before that fight was made - but Lomachneko's father didn't want to do that fight because he wanted to first test Lomachenko at 135. He's very methodical, Anatoly," said Arum of Lomachenko's dad.

Now who would criticize Anatoly Lomachenko? Nobody! Nobody would scream "Oh, Loma's dad is trying to protect him!" Loma's dad has done a wonderful job of training, and matchmaking! This is why I would disagree with Floyd throwing Tank in with Loma this year! I understand the money, but sometimes it's Ok to admit when you're fighter IS NOT READY!

It's not crazy, it's just that Pac doesn't want that fight.

You'd think Arum could've pulled it off. If Loma gets that fight he becomes the PPV attraction. Where does that leave Bud?

            Matthysse will spoil Pac’s plans.

It's only OK for some fathers/trainers to admit things like this.

If they're serious about this fight then why haven't they tried to have Pac fight at 140 first?
That's probably the weight class they'll fight in, yet Pac is still at 147 while Loma is barely moving up to 135. Unless they fight at a catch weight for Pac's Welterweight title, that's if he beats Matthysse. That is not going to happen. It's almost as if they don't have a plan just talk.

I think they should have Pac try to make 140, before fighting Loma, against a 140 pound Champion. Loma in the meantime cleans out 135 a bit. Hopefully a Mikey fight this year. That's the fight we all want.

Lol at the posters implying Loma's dad is scared of Pac. Just because they want to move up one weight class at a time. They're not going to go from 130 to 140.

Well he'd be moving up 3 divisions. Who else has done that in one fight recently?

I guess it's only an issue if some fathers/trainers admit this.

Pacquiao shouldn't move down. He hasn't made 140 in almost a decade, he's old and really should be retiring. If Loma wants to fight him, he should go to the old legend.
