As young man Bernard was capable of nullifying Tripe G's power for the most part. I do think that Gennady can out score Bernard but it would become a tactical bout. Bernard was experienced enough at 160 to compete however I do not hold Bernard high in the 160 division. I know most on here think he's an ATG fighter but I don't. Good or very good doesn't mean Great!

If Sanchez's strategy for Golovkin to beat BHop was simply to rely on his power to do the job, Golovkin would be in for a painful and humiliating night, had they fought in their primes.

How many big punchers did BHop difuse over the many years of his career? Echols, Tito, Eastman, Pavlik, Pascal, Tarver etc. Even when BHop lost against a big puncher like RJJ, Taylor and Kovalev he went the distance and their power was never the reason why BHop lost. If all you have is power, BHop eats you alive.

Fighters that beat prime or near prime Hopkins had certain attributes. Firstly fast enough hands to beat Hopkins to the punch like Taylor, RJJ Dawson and Calzaghe. Secondly good footwork to get in a position to be able to throw and to get away without taking a counter. Taylor, RJJ and Dawson all did this to beat Hopkins. Calzaghe had the hand speed and the ability to cut off the ring to throw but he couldn't evade the counter and compensated for that with insane work rate to win the exchanges.

Golovkin arguably has one of the necessary attributes to win. He might have the foot work to cut off the ring on Hopkins, but he doesn't have the hand speed to get off first which Hopkins would sit back and counter which is when he's at his most effective. He couldn't do this vs RJJ, Taylor and Dawson he had to pressure them. So against GGG, Hopkins would benefit from being able to fight his kind of fight.

So Golovkin simply can't fight in a manner that we've seen before that is effective against Hopkins in fact he would fight in a manner that has been shown to make Hopkins look good and that's why Hopkins would likely win a UD.

            great post man !!

            I said the same thing.....

Hopkins does not bully fighters, he tames bullies, and eats punchers for breakfast
Hopkins would have been one step ahead of Golovkin and beaten him to the punch all night long..... I don't agree that Golovkin is a master at cutting off the ring, and his hands are too slow when he gets in position..... Canelo saw most of that shht coming a mile away

it could actually play out similarly to Pavlik..... I don't think that Golovkin would be so outclassed but it would be an extremely frustrating night for him

i bet norris and mugambi would have had some success.
