You are among the first I have read to outright think this fight won't happen. I think that is really interesting. I don't think either man backs away from it for their own reasons. Alvarez will want to prove he s clean and does not need to juice to fight Golovkin. If he backs away, I think the whispers will follow him forever. Fight- even if he loses- and prove yourself clean this becomes a footnote in his career.
Golovkin needs a real legacy victory. Jacobs is a legit win, but I do not think anyone looks at him and thinks one of the best 160 ever. Alvarez is backed by many boxers that acknowledge the sweet science. His performance will forever be archived. Lateral movement around the ring along with defense dates back the early days of pugilism on film.
