I think it's crazy to think a fighter (Golovkin) simply chooses not to "show up" against an opponent (Jacobs) just to "lure" a potential and desired future opponent (Canelo) for a payday.

I think it's more likely that Golovkin and his people are smart, knowing they have a very formidable and hungry fighter in front of them (Jacobs, Canelo) to where they don't focus only on the knockout, but how to win the fight however necessary. Golovkin seems like a smart fighter, if his power isn't getting the job done that night or he isn't connecting as much, he'll work on pressure-boxing to win rounds rather than going into Donairs-Mode where he's only trying to land one punch that worked for him several years ago.
