If Lil g truly cared about unifying all the belts and legacy etc, he should have just fought his mando on May 5th instead of this cherry fight with Vanes.

Pro boxing is business first but, if golovkin wanted to still fight on may 5 AND keep those titles AND be free to fight canelo in September, he should have fought his mandatory - especially as the guy was willing to take that fight at short notice!

I think golovkin has definitely lost some credibility here.

Jacobs didn't wanna fight for the IBF title against GGG and I doubt he will want to fight for it now knowing he'd have to meet the second day weigh in requirements.

How about this, get rid of all those organizations like WBC, WBO, WPG, WW2, W2C, WRX, IBO, BFI, BBB, IBF and their funny belts. Keep one per weight divisions, which they should tone down too..... and get Sulaiman a nice job at mcdonalds. Getting tired of all those belts, weights and b*ll**** that comes with them. Sigh.

I agree with you 100%, should be 1 title, 1 organization, and 0 promoters. They have ruined the sport!

Canelo is not going to generate that kind of money against any other opponent. Saying he generated 90% of the total purse isn't realistic.

GGG fights this weekend and there's still a bunch of tickets left. Add to that he's making around 1 million for this fight. If the roles were reversed, Canelo would have sold out the StubHub by now and would be getting way more than 1 million for a fight. Canelo could fight anyone else and still make over 10 million while GGG would only make around 2 million to fight anyone else.

You may be corect, however, we know ggg can’t sell beer at a bar... we also know canelo definitely generated more than 55 percent of total sales. My point still stands. Canelo vacated and it was the right move to do.

MY point stands! When you get to this level that canelo, ggg, Joshua, and all the big money making boxing athletes of today; money trumps any belt any day. With that being said, how could you defend a belt for possibly having to split the money 55 percent to 45 percent when clearly you will be the one generating 90+ percent of the whole pie? My thoughts exactly. Derevechenko would have taken it on short notice, mandatory defense could have been handled. Vanes may be more dangerous, hope this little move doesn't backfire

Not sure because they had that rule for the Hurd/Lara unification fight. Wouldn't surprise me if they just changed that rule just for Canelo that fight.
