Yeah anyone paying more than that to watch a fight on TV must be a vivid fan. It shouldn't be more than that everywhere IMHO, mugging people off and charging anything over is ridiculous. If you are watching it live in the arena then ok fine.
I don't know why any Americans are proud that big boxing events are off-limits for average people, and that some rich people in Vegas pay 10's of thousands for tickets? Boxing should be about the fans and the support for fighters, not how many celebs and 1% you can get to turn up to a ****ty little arena with no atmosphere.
Also, lol at having to pay $80 dollars for a PPV. Maybe they shold half the price and get twice as many eyeballs on the event, to grow the sport and make it viable for the paying public.
Broner-Vargas did well, and Wilder-Ortiz did even better than that. The starpower of the fighters definitely had a big benefit, but having Lou DiBella at the helm of the show, working his market, helped make sure that word got out as best as it could for the fight, especially in Brooklyn.
Eddie Hearn doesn't have that local knowledge, and it's clear in the work with Jacobs so far.
Just like Lou DiBella having major issues were he to try and put on a show in London, even if he had London's own James Degale on the bill. Lou doesn't have the contact with the ticket sellers, the local sporting celebs, or the various other flashpoints that help make a show a show.
It's kinda the genius of the Haymon model; get the deepest pool of talent, and then stage shows with promoters in markets that they know.
There was an implicit acknowledgment of this by Hearn in one of his us interviews. He had his regular jab at Dibella but followed it by saying that he may have some work for him.
I enjoyed both the Broner and Jacobs cards but there was no question which had the star quality and the greater commercial pull.
Joshua vs. Parker was azz on Showtime, compared to Wilder vs. Ortiz! Broner Card much bigger than Jacobs' card! MatchRoom is not getting it done in the U.S.!
True, but Khan, Whyte and Brook were built up by other promoters.
Hearn built only a few from scratch, AJ, Katie Taylor, Callum Smith, etc. And I'm sure he will build others.
Very similar to when Golden Boy went on a signing spree a decade ago and picked up a lot of key names from other promoters, but once those key names retired or left them its been a bare ship.
Regardless, the UK audience and US audience are two very different animals.
What a load of absolute ****.
Khan was built up in the UK due to his Olympic achievements and the UK's want to see it.. before Hearn even came along he went to the states it was nothing to do with UK promotion.
Brook was a noone.. to even suggest he had a profile from Frank Warren is laughable as is the suggestion that dillian Whyte had profile before his match with AJ.
He signed with matchroom right after that fight and his popularity is purely through matchroom promotion.
Almost as laughable as you suggesting that IFL are on the UK NI payroll of matchroom the other day when they are intact contracted to multiple content provisions for sauerland and boxnation but don't actually provide any matchroom-owned platform content.
