Boxing and UFC merger

Never going to happen. Boxing isn't a single entity when it comes to business, it's a fragmented sport like nothing else. other sports have an overall governing body. Boxing is rare, it's different from state to state, country to country. When you consider it has no real one power running it all, it's basically just a load of businesses doing deals with each other. So boxing as a whole can never truly merge with anything else. It's basically just a load of independent businesses that calls itself a sport.
It's a weird sport. It's like when people say we should go back to having 1 title per division, what? you think the IBF or whatever are just going to shut down their business when there's not one overall power in charge making a decision on the sport. of course not. Boxing is a mess when it comes to the business side of it.Comment

Thanks. That's kind of what I figured. He was one of the guys who was rooting for McGregor when he fought Mayweather and he truely believed McGregor was going to win, so I figured when he said this, it was fishy.
I have missed out on a lot of news lately though, as I've been working a lot. So I didn't know if I missed one of those Dana White stories or something with his promotional ****.Comment

No I don't think he meant it like that. The way he described it, he said it would still be boxing, only with smaller gloves and in grappling without the ref breaking the fighters up, but no MMA moves, no takedowns.LOL how or why would they merge? Boxers can't MMA and UFC can't box. They are pretty different. One could die off, but that doesn't seem like its happening. But no, boxers aren't just going to join the UFC, thats ridiculous.
Neither do great, overall, but boxers make far more money. But UFC for MMA fans is an amazing product. You get the best matchups all the time.
UFC running boxing would be a dream. Imagine only the top matchups, every time. In boxing there are so many amazing fights possible that will never happen.
As a sport boxing is run in really crazy and chaotic way, with a lot of corruption in the background. UFC also takes drug testing among the most seriously of any sport.
But in terms of money and ratings. They are both about equal more or less. UFC puts on far more PPV cards, but just like with boxing its pretty much feast or famine. UFC is a bit more stable since it puts so many on, but their ratings can get pretty low without a superstar.
Boxing also depends on its superstars, and globally seems to have more superstars than UFC, especially when you account Britain.
Really the way I see it, it would just be UFC fighters moving into boxing, and having the rules changed specifically for their fighters. It would still be purely boxing, but modified boxing.
That what I got out of what he told me. Modified boxing.Comment

Both sports are doing ok. Like boxing, the UFC is lacking that one superstar who can put the sport on it's back and make you watch.Thanks. That's kind of what I figured. He was one of the guys who was rooting for McGregor when he fought Mayweather and he truely believed McGregor was going to win, so I figured when he said this, it was fishy.

Your friend is talking out of his ass...I was having a discussion with a friend regarding boxing and UFC. He pretty much said that UFC is going to take over boxing.
He sited Joshua and Mayweather talking about switching over as evidence. He said that eventually, boxing and UFC will become one. He described it as just like regular boxing, but with small, 4 oz boxing gloves and no breaks when fighters get into clinches.
Does anyone have any source on this or is my friend just talking out of his ass?
The likes Floyd and AJ would never ever switch over.
He’s probably an MMA fan just wishfully thinking this will happen, but in reality it never will.Comment
