I bet Davis wants no parts of Machado, even doe Machado hasn't looked spectacular like in his first fights, Machado got the size and punching power and davis wants no part of him.

Earliest I can find is RJJ (promoted from regular - so I guess that's when it was first set up) and Trinidad - Hopkins in 2001. Mormeck 2005, Otke - Mitchell 2003 etc. Shumenov and Sturm were the first guy to get promoted under the 5 defense rule in early 2010 (both of these guys' careers seem to have benefited from the goodwill of the WBA), Shumenov in particular seemed to hold on to his trinket for fuckin ever despite really not being much good.

As you said Roy Jones jr. was 'Super-Champion' way back in 2001! I got lost because I wasn't sure if the other sanctioning bodies acknowledged that title at that particular time, nevertheless it was around.

I cant believe that they have been doing this for what? the last 17+ years now? and they are still having major issues with it?! well not really, I think its serving its purpose to make them more money.

And I'm wondering if you compare the initial concept to the present rules being applied, was it better then from now? -- I mean Gervonta is now 'Super-Champion' but back then it seems like you had to become unified to earn that spot or have a lot of defenses -- which would reduce the 'Super-Champion'.

I also looked around the present WBA 'Super-Champions' and it seems like Gervonta is the only 'Super' champ thats not unified...thats very interesting. Thanks again.

He is stepping up. I expect Tevin Farmer to beat Billy Dib, just like he did Ogawa, and then we'll have a unification bout @ 130 between Davis & Farmer! That should be a good one. They dislike each other, and B-More vs. Philly is a good show 99% of the time! Might have to wear a vest to that one!
