I've never been more confident in the over in my life. Now if I can just find some good odds on a sportsbook for this play.

When Lamont Peterson challenged Errol Spence jr. he had to vacate the WBA 'Regular' title -- but wait! why wasn't it a 'unification' if its a legit world title? figure it out.

it was never a legit belt

you cannot have 2 WBA " champions " running around making title defences..... let alone 3

pretty obvious stuff like this would happen

The WBA are exploiting the great legacy of the 'Regular' title, they know even the hardcore have a problem ignoring it given that it is one of the founding titles in the modern age of boxing.

In spite of that, as you said you cant have two world champions for one organization, its bad enough when other sanctioning bodies issue a 'interim' but at least they can justify it in the fact injuries are apart of the sport.

This is a sham!! This is just as bad as the PEDS mess!! As a life long boxing fan this sport keeps sinking itself deeper and deeper!!!
Prepare for the creation of another santioning body!! 😕

Meanwhile, they're collecting sanctioning fees from both. Finessing at is finest!

The super title's been around longer that that. Early 2000s I think, perhaps 2005 off the top of my head. At first it was just for Unified champs and intended to reduce the burden of mandatories , but was then modified in 2009 to allow titlists with 5 or more defense (the root of the Sturm / Golovkin debacle) with no particularly valid explanation. At least they changed the rules first that time though... this time... who knows? Fishy as hell if you ask me.

Interesting, can you provide the names and date of the fight for the first 'Super' Champions? before 2011? thanks in advance if you can.

Earliest I can find is RJJ (promoted from regular - so I guess that's when it was first set up) and Trinidad - Hopkins in 2001. Mormeck 2005, Otke - Mitchell 2003 etc. Shumenov and Sturm were the first guy to get promoted under the 5 defense rule in early 2010 (both of these guys' careers seem to have benefited from the goodwill of the WBA), Shumenov in particular seemed to hold on to his trinket for fuckin ever despite really not being much good.

EDIT: Shumenov wasn't promoted til 2013 so as I thought the only real initial beneficiary of the 5 defense rule was Sturm who got to avoid his mandatory GGG amongst allegations of bribery (although Oner, the accuser, is also dodgy as hell and had beef with Sturm, so..?).
