In the letter, Torres outlined the reasons for the IBF's refusal the grant approval for Golovkin to defend against Martirosyan. The IBF's reasons for refusing the approve the fight are same reasons why the proposed bout with Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KOs), 31, a 2004 U.S. Olympian from Glendale, California, has received so much criticism from boxing fans and media: Martirosyan is coming off a loss, he is a junior middleweight who would be moving up in weight and he has not fought in two years.

If Golovkin goes ahead with the bout against Martirosyan, the IBF said it would invoke its rule 5.H, which states, "If a champion participates in an unsanctioned contest within his prescribed weight limit, the title will be declared vacant whether the champion wins or loses the bout. The championships committee, with the approval of the (IBF) president, will then establish a new champion in that division in accordance with the procedures established and prescribed in these rules."

The IBF rules do provide Golovkin with the ability to seek an exception to the mandatory bout, but the IBF's reasons for not approving the fight in the first place would not bode well for him to get the exception granted. Loeffler acknowledged the letter from the IBF and told ESPN that Golovkin plans to fight May 5 and said their side will seek an exception, adding that he hopes the IBF will grant one.

What's taking them so long? Charlo vs. Derevyanchenko for the IBF title in August, in Houston! Let's Go!
Pretty much this! I'm beginning to respect the IBF the most.

I even like how they quickly removed that loophole Jacob's got away with having 1 guy do same day weight and other one being able to skip it and having an extra 24 hours to fatten up..

They are pissing me off with the Ogawa suspension! As it is now, the Farmer vs. Dib winner has to face him "as soon as he's able to defend his title." That's some BS!

thats the dumbest shit ive ever heard

hes not even a middleweight, hasn't fought for 2 years and is 3-3 last 6 fights

but we feel that Vanes, especially being rated number one by the WBC
and vanes IS NOT RATED AT ALL in middleweight division cuz he never fought in it

The Alvarez money wasn't there nor was there any assurance there would be when they were building GGG up.
He has been the main event for cards but not the only attraction. Think about it, they picked Vanes with the hope that he can bring in ticket revenue from his hometown fans.

They built GGG to get him in the ring with a ppv money maker. It's why they avoided the tougher fights. Why they made zero weight concessions. If they had done otherwise, he would have a stronger following of paying fans.

Besides if triple g feels that he's beaten Canelo why run it back?? He's 36 years old he needs to fight saunders and be undisputed champ, that's a good payday as well in the UK. Besides he didn't want to fight Canelo because he's on steroids who's to say Canelo won't test positive again then what? That's a whole year wasted on a guy who doesn't have a belt. Unify then fight Sergiy or Charlo. Hekk even Andrade would be decent.

                Wait what Vanes has fans?!?!??

A- troll post or huh lol.

Jfc man some of you guys got some serious revisionist history skills.

GGG is a foreigner in a xenophobic culture. The fact he's probably the 3rd biggest non-us, non-latino boxer (behind Manny and Lennox) in the last 30 or whatever years is amazing.

Too many fanboys and haters on here today or something. Mfers can't look at something with some objectivitiness without totally licking a guys ass hole or dogging him about the shoes he wears lol.

Don't be silly, every fighter has hometown fans. You don't have to be world renown to have local fans.

I see, when in doubt, play the GGG is a victim role. GTFOH wit that! Its not about where he is from, what he looks like, or anything else other than who he has stepped in the ring with. Bottom line, he has only been in the ring with TWO fighters that are consensus top tier fighters. At his age, being a champion, you'd think that wouldn't be the case. My opinion is that he's been carefully matched and built up a certain way to make ppv money as an opponent not as the main attraction. You may disagree and that's fine, but don't try and play that bs game when actual boxing facts can't disqualify and actually supports my opinion.

this fight was made for 2 simple reasons. 1) They need a weak opponent with no risk of beating GGG so they can keep the Canelo rematch payday alive 2) somebody willing to fight for dirt cheap.

Vanes is fighting for 1 hot meal and a used GGG T-shirt and he's 154lb gatekeeper coming off a loss and 2 years without fighting. Literally coming off the couch with 2 weeks to get in shape and prepare for 160. He checks all their boxes.

The fact you think Vanes 2k or w/e fans matter here doesn't seem like a stretch to you?

Did you read my posts in this thread you lame arguer? I took a huge sh^t on GGG and his team.

That said GGG and his team have overall done amazing at getting him from here to there even if I think this current move is garbage.

Some of you guys just can't see the good AND the bad lmfao. It's an amazing thing to me. It's like being color blind or something. Everyone is all good or all sh^t or the best in the world or a bum who should retire to so many NSBers here.
