Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin Expects To Fight Anthony Joshua Next

Alexander Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs) is expecting to become the next opponent for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs). Povetkin is the mandatory challenger under the WBA and WBO. The WBA recently ordered the two fighters to negotiate a deal or risk the possibility of heading to a purse bid.

Al Haymon and Shelly Finkel are meeting Eddie Hearn on Thursday.

If they can't offer a counter deal, negotiate or accept the 12.5m then I suspect we will see them both move in different directions.

It already sounds like the Brezeale fight is happening so I'm not holding out much hope of Haymon or Finkel proposing anything substantial.

Wilder will fight Brezeale for 3m. Joshua will fight Povetkin for 25m.

I'm ok with Wilder or Povetkin, probably prefer the Wilder fight. Miller in the States would have been ok and probably makes sense if its Wilder after but defo a second to the first two.

So Wilder is a coward ducking Joshua after all?

I wish they'd just announce something already rather than stringing everyone along.

Wilder, make the fight with AJ.

Either take the $12.5 for a shot at glory, or negotiate a better deal.

Knocking out Breazeale won't prove anything or help your career. If people are advising you to fight Breazeale tell them to go **** themselves. You got yourself the recognition you deserve by beating Ortiz, don't throw that away by returning to low-risk, low-reward fights.

Really hope these rumours aren't true

That's how I feel. I don't think there was ever intention to fight wilder, as evidenced by the flat fee but Eddie likes to present a certain image so here we are.

I don't have a big problem with Povetkin being next but the fanboy bickering on both sides has been obnoxious.

Coming up to 30 days they gave Joshua-Povetkin to make the fight. No counter offer from Wilder, nothing. Wilder is waiting until Joshua has no choice but to sign for Povetkin and then will start talking crap. Wilder has no interest in actually making the fight.
