You need an elite defense, durability, or at least clean counter punching to defeat Kovalev, Joe has none of that. This is an absolute nightmare match up.

Clevelry was much more durable than Joe, possessed a very high work rate too but was utterly demolished by Kovalev.

Calzaghe never fought any true power punchers throughout his career, at least nobody quality. He doesn't have a single win over anybody with a KO ratio above 70% and that's at SMW, forget LHW, forget Kovalev.
70% KO ratio? WTF are you talking about?? Lacy was 21-0(17KO’s) when he fought Joe, Kessler was 39-0(29KO’s) when Joe fought him, you’re talking straight BS man.

For the record I’d probably pick Kovalev over Joe myself, mainly due to the natural size advantages as well as his power, but suggesting this is some kind of mismatch is ignorant, uninformed nonsense!

Yea, Joe would smother Kovaquit. I voted for stoppage.

Calzaghe never fought any true power punchers in his career, it's backed up by facts, he doesn't have a single win over a guy with a KO ratio above 70%.
Haha, fighters with great chins have been dropped throughout history. Look at Ali? The amount of times he was rocked (Something that has never been done to Joe) you can count on all fingers and toes. He was dropped a few times as well.

Your in a very small minority if you don't think Joe had a great chin.

P.S Just remembered who you are. You're a delusional troll who always talks mad ****. So being reasonable is clearly wasted on you.

Yea it's like saying that Margocheato didn't have a great chin, because he was KO'd by Mosley.

Calzaghe was never hurt, maybe in his entire carreer.

People are underrating Kovalev in this thread.

I think Joe himself has gotten underrated throughout his career despite his accomplishments.

But in this match up, i give a slight edge to kovalev. He's a massive puncher with great boxing skills. He'd be the bigger, stronger guy as well and i think he puts a hurting on Joe the beginning part of the fight. Definitely scores a knockdown or two. Joe does have great stamina/output compared to kovalev who does fade late in fights. So I see joe bouncing back and mounting his own rally at the end of the fight. But I still think Kov does enough to get a decision.

Calzaghe by KO aroun 8-9 round. Calzaghe would mess him up.

I said quality power punchers, Lacy was struggling with journeyman Omar Sheika before fighting Calzaghe. He didn't do anything afterwards either.

Kessler racked up his KO's against journeymen, he made Andrade look like he had an ATG chin and had a very tough fight with Mundine. A 26 year old Ward, pre-prime, demolished him, Froch, and left the SMW division in the dust.

Those are decent punchers, but nobody like a Kovalev. Kovalev would **** Anthony Mundine, not get into a war with him, he showed his quality vs Ward.

In order to have a great chin you have to prove it against a quality power puncher it's that simple, Ali fought actual heavies, actual power punchers. The biggest punchers Joe fought, Kessler, and Lacy were decent punchers but nothing special nowhere near a Kovalev. If Kessler hit anywhere near as hard as Sergey he would've put Mundine & Andrade out which Kessler failed to do. If Lacy was the power puncher they said he was he would've put Sheika out not struggle with him and a bunch of other guys. Ward left the entire SMW in the dust and we saw how much he struggled with Sergey. JP was on par with Bernard Hopkins, who Joe arguably lost to and he got demolished as well vs Sergey.
