Just like I suspected. They weren't held to that date. The date could've been postponed. But instead of postponing the date and getting a legit fight he held the date and picked the worst possible opponent available.

Postponing the date is always the last choice, for all fighters - and for a ton of good reasons.

• The date typically gets pushed by at least ~4 weeks. The fighter has to keep training for all of this time, which ruins the training schedule. Especially bad for an older fighter.
• Pushing the date to June or even later to July, would potentially impact a big fight in Sept. Same as what happened last year - Sanchez said Golovkin needed more rest and couldn't find BJS in June.
• You have to renegotiate the place and TV timeslots, where they'll probably fine you and/or pay you peanuts.

Postponing the fight in order to fight SD was never gonna happen.

I want him to fight the best available. Just don’t expect him to do it in 4 weeks notice. Also don’t expect him to reschedule for a mandatory that I hadn’t heard of before his last fight that would scuttle a fight that I, as well as millions of other people, are actually interested in seeing.

If Sergiy was the fight on the schedule, so be it! Go for it ! But to have him fight on 4 weeks notice, or to reschedule and lose the Canelo money is dumb. Yes I’m a boxing fan. Been watching heavily and attending fights for 15 years.

Waiting until 3 weeks also affects ticket sales, your secondary source for income. I know Tom said ticket sales are going good but he's fighting at stub hub which is a 8k seat venue. GGG hasnt fought in a venue that small in years. With a diiferent date you get A bigger venue, more time to market the fight (like Tom has said), a higher licence fee from HBO & you'll have more money to fight a better fighter. Stubbornly kerping the date & you end up fighting a JMW coming off a loss moving up a weight class. This fight accomplishes nothing but putting money in K2 pocket & avoiding a risk
