The real question right now is; "Will Golovkin avoiding Sergiy be justified?" I get it, it's a risky fight but it's definitely on short notice and it's not really like Golovkin asked to be in this predicament. GGG is already well into his camp preparing for a particular opponent. His entire camp and training has been built around Canelo's style. It's a real risk fighting a live fighter in Sergiy and being asked to change your plans less than a month to go.

With that being said, I would hope one of two things happens in regards to Sergiy. As a fan, I'd love to see Golovkin step up and actually face Sergiy. That would give the mandatory his well deserved shot at the title while boosting/maintaining Golovkin's credibility. I just hope it doesn't become a habit because then he'd essentially be doing what they did to him.

I realize you all were eager to see Golovkin vs Canelo, and now that it's fucked, you want to still see him in a fight vs a live dog. But knowing that he spent the last several weeks preparing to fight Canelo, yet expecting him to reset and be properly prepared for Derevyanchenko in 3 weeks? And then expecting the IBF to make his mando due immediately or strip him? Maybe the lot of you DKSAB.

They need to keep pushing the IBF to order it. Golovkin won't be in a fight or be stripped position otherwise. But the IBF are usually good at ordering fights so maybe that should have happened already.

            Let's be real about this.

For sure, GGG doesn't want to fight Derevanchenko on 3 weeks notice, and with HBO only willing to pay $1million for it.

And Derevenchenko doesn't want to fight GGG on 3 weeks notice for $250k either!

What Derevenchenko wants is for GGG to either relinquish the IBF belt or abandon the May 5th date, so they can both prepare properly and have time to promote the fight properly and earn at least 2/3 times what they would get if they fought on May 5th.

Unlike GGG, Sergiy wasn't preparing for a fight. So who comes in a far worse shape? Sergiy of course.

To me it seems obvious they are waiting to see what happens tomorrow. Six month ban then they fight a gimme and Canelo in September. 12 month ban and they try to unify with Saunders in June/July.

Unfortunate scenario. IBF can't enforce a mandatory as a replacement fight with 3 weeks left to go. If they do, the precedence it will set (if Sergiy ends up badly hurt, for instance) would be egregious.

Of course anyone in Sergiy's seat would take the fight because it'd be a career high payday, even with the HBO budget, or lack there of - and also the limelight, the status, and everything that comes with a big fight of this magnitude.

IBF has to be mindful of the safety of it's participants.

Also, I've said this before, and I will say it again: The IBF had the opportunity, when it first was reported that Canelo was dirty, to get out in front of this. They could have easily said something along the lines of: [B] "...it's March 2nd, and with Canelo using a banned substance, there is a chance that this fight may get canceled. In the event that it does get canceled by (a specific date) then we feel that is sufficient enough time to promote and train for a GGG v Sergiy fight. We will order and enforce that fight if a cancellation happens on or before (a specific date). However, if that (specific date) arrives and there has been no news on NSAC's decision/cancellation, then GGG will be allowed to fight a voluntary defense"

That way there would be NO issue on what needs to happen next. That type of transparency allows for people to move on and plan accordingly - as oppose to idly waiting by.

You can prepare well for a fight in 8 weeks not 3 weeks. Nobody 'dragged' Brook up. He bit off Hearns hand when offered the fight after Eubank lost his pen. Dragged up makes it sound like Brook was Golovkin's first choice but the fight was organised in London by a British promoter with a name MW fighter (Eubank) and the whole promotion would have fallen through if Hearn wouldn't have been able to find a replacement quickly. Stop hating and twisting - you are better than that. It was Hearn's company doing the promoting and back then nobody had 'exposed' Golovkin so it wasn't like there were fighters biting at the bit to meet Golovkin.
