Why would GBP be liable for damages? They didn't put Clenbuterol in Mexican meat.

Depends on how the bout contract was worded. King lost a case not too long ago for the exact same thing.

If it were me, I would sue both GBP and Canelo. Maybe a judge dismisses against GBP, maybe not. But the actions of GBP and Canelo were negligent at best (possibly worse), and that negligence led to a financial hit for Golovkin.

They should be culpable. (lay opinion)

it appears that Golovkin wants a real soft-touch so he can break Hopkins record..... then he will take that Canelo money..... then he will retire, without ever fighting Saunders (who he has passed up 3 times now), and without ever fighting his mando's Derevyanchenko and Charlo

Sept. is free whether he fights this guy or not. He doesn't have to unify prior to the Canelo fight. He can unify later or retire as you say if he feels he's had enough. I have strong doubts that Canelo will be able to fight in Sept. Whether he fights in May has no bearing on whether he is free in Sept. If he is forced to fight his manditory and he is sure he can get Canelo or Saunders in Sept. he will have to decide which is better for him financially or for his legacy. Almost all fighters would take the money. By the way that fight isn't a joke. Golovkin does have Mexican fans that he doesn't want to alienate.
