Gennady Golovkin's promoter acknowledged Thursday that he has had serious discussions regarding Golovkin facing Vanes Martirosyan on May 5. Tom Loeffler, Golovkin and trainer Abel Sanchez had hoped to announce Golovkin's upcoming opponent during a hastily arranged, informal press conference in Los Angeles. Loeffler was unable, however, to finalize an agreement with a replacement for the temporarily suspended Canelo Alvarez in time to do that.

Golovkin could simply defer the fight and select a decent opponent

one could assume that he is ONLY doing this for the Canelo money..... one could also note that he has been doing this for his entire career..... and if Gennady did not like it, he would change it

he doesn't need your sympathy, he is about to fleece a pile of suckers in another tomato-can fight

Vanes suxx as a Golovkin opponent, that fight simply cannot be justified
