Injured isn't he?
They should just postpone a GGG fight for a month or two and fight Saunders. I know he's scheduled to fight Murray but i'm sure that Murray would accept some kind of deal that suit everyone. Maybe a shot later and a pay-off.
I doubt that would happen though. GGG's team still know Canelo is the big money fight and might see a possibility of it still happening in September if Canelo cleared to fight, so they won't put GGG out later than May.Comment

I don't see how those are parallels.
Wilder pulled out of the Povetkin fight before a ruling was made. He fought Arreola a couple months later in a completely unrelated bout with normal negotiations/full camp (for his opponent).
Canelo pulled out of this one and Golovkin is merely showing up for his end of the bargain on an unchanged date at a downsized venue if I'm not mistaken. It would be an anomaly if he pulled a superstar opponent out of his hat and they agreed on money less than 4 weeks out. Not impossible, but also not the usual outcome.
To answer though; I wasn't hard on Wilder for Arreola. It's on par with his usual fare & I didn't find it remarkable enough to comment on at all.
Reality: He was scheduled to fight Canelo & Canelo ran into issues completely out of Golovkin's control. His replacement hasn't even been secured & will probably only have a couple weeks to prepare. Normally people wouldn't be expecting a superfight announcement but people are strange about Golovkin.
no, people make strange excuses for Golovkin
1) you select an opponent
2) you select the venue/date
they could simply defer the fightComment

Is this not the par norm for the situation?
People don't actually expect him to randomly announce his substitute is (insert fantasy) at the last minute. It's possible that a big deal is made and they choose a new date for it, but it's not expected. They're just pretending to expect it.
Let's be totally honest; any other two fighters and the guy who tested positive then bailed would be taking 100% of the flack and the guy keeping his date at a downsized venue would be getting pats on the back for rolling with it. There wouldn't be shared blame. Golovkin wasn't even the one to pull out.
But this is Mexico's most heavily promoted fighter (also backed by flo mos since they consider anyone Canelo beats to count as a Floyd win) vs a polarizing outcast from Kazakhstan, so we see a unique response.
He intentionally contaminated Canelo's beef just so he could fight a bum for a small fraction of the pay! Nah. He's getting a consolation check for camp then rescheduling the Canelo fight.Last edited by ////; 04-09-2018, 08:12 AM.Comment

I assume he's already deep enough in camp that he wants to book a routine fight then reschedule with Canelo, by far his biggest rival & payday.

Posters that over criticize American fighters, particularly black American boxers, blamed Wilder when Povetkin and then Ortiz tested positive. It wasn't so long ago so there is no way you forgot this.
While posters that blame GGG are crazy IMO, the fans of GGG tend to support Povetkin. If it was Wilder's fault that the Povetkin fight was cancelled (which we should be able to agree is absurd) then it shouldn't surprise you that posters blame GGG.
If posters those posters could set aside their biased ******ity and hate then we wouldn't see what IMO are retaliation threads/posts from posters.Comment

the MW division was arguably way weaker during Hopkin's reign. go look at the names under all his defenses. but B Hop never got **** for it because social media wasn't prevalent, he was winning decisions not knockouts and he never bragged about knocking out light heavyweights in sparring.Comment

The bolded is not true. we've seen the person who tested positive not get blamed-Wilder v Povetkin and Wilder v Ortiz..

I would expect the same reaction if Golovkin pulled out. Frustrated with Golovkin for bailing and angry at Canelo for screwing up.
He didn't though. Canelo withdrew. Golovkin is being attacked for keeping the date he was already training for? Correct me if I'm wrong.Last edited by ////; 04-09-2018, 08:43 AM.Comment
