Come to think about it, DeGale only had a couple of truly good fights, three at best. He revealed some heart in the meantime and this is appreciable.

However, his level has never been that of a man at the very top.

Yeah had a couple of good stoppages but they weren’t against great competition. He only has one genuine good win against past his best Dirrell and that was close.

Groves would maybe knock him out at this point...

              Makes sense.

Two lads from the same gym. Bitter rivals as amateurs, bitter rivals as novice pros, and now bitter rivals as veteran world champs.

I'd retire if I was Groves too, tbh. If he beats Smith and Degale I can't see how it could get better. Not sure cleaning up the rest of the division is that appealing.

That would definitely be a big money bout in the UK. Degale looks like he is one loss away from being done for good though.

Think that's exactly why he wants Groves. The media/Chunky's team can hype at as DeGale wanting to avenge a previous loss (and unification between 2 brits) whilst the reality of it would be him cashing out before retiring because Groves should comfortably defeat him these days.

If Groves beats Smith, unifying against an old rival in a farewell fight sounds pretty good to me.

By far the biggest money bout for DeGale & Groves is to fight each other. DeGale probably wants to cash out and be done. Groves still has to get past Smith so it will be interesting.
