Comments Thread For: The Anthony Joshua Divide

By Tris Dixon - NOT every Mike Tyson performance was an annihilation. Not every Muhammad Ali bout was poetic. Not every Lennox Lewis contest was an exhibition. Not every Joe Louis win came from the textbook and not every Rocky Marciano victory resulted in destruction. Of course it's too early to hold Anthony Joshua in that kind of...

The divide is simple... he is scared of Wilder. Sign the contract and fight Wilder. Simple.

Yet Joshua did something he had not done before and also something he would have to do at some stage. He went the distance.
When the final bell sounded I jizzed in my pants. What an awesome display of stamina. Fight of the year for me.

“And when the fight threatened to shift to close-quarters, referee Giuseppe Quartarone intervened at every feasible opportunity. He murdered the bout as a spectacle. There had been times when Joshua and Parker looked prepared to get it on and scrap, but Quartarone – so inexperienced for such a high level assignment – torpedoed any opportunity for it to get going.”

This was the story of the fight. I don’t know if it was incompetence or the referee was bought off.
But he made it a boring fight. He kept it from being a war. I guess Parker made a mistake by telegraphing his plans for the fight.

Just re-watched this fight. To me it looked more like a sparring session between two good mates.
Parker didnt come to win he fought to not get knocked out.
AJ was absolutely fine with this style of fight he looked comfortable and at ease cause he knew Parker didnt have the killa instinct.
I think he will look alot different and twitchy if and when he steps into the ring with the bronze bomber.

And what better message to send to London teenagers in a city struggling with an on-going knife crime battle.

While it was intriguing, those in the TV trucks were hard-pushed to put together any meaningful highlight packages.

Indeed this fight reminded me - in principle, not in facts - of Mike Tyson vs Tony Tucker.

Still, Tucker was a good fighter against an all-time great. Instead, Parker is an average fighter against someone who had no trouble in keeping him in his place without too much of an effort.

Overall, the jury is still out on AJ. But at this level of competition - unless Wilder defeats him - he can rule as long as he wants.
