also comparing a once a year event to a running national pastime is pretty silly. you should be able to do more in a once a year event but thurman and wilder can't even do that against new yorks second most popular basketball team oh my.
I'm comparing attendance of a local team to Smith claiming nobody has heard of Wilder. If Wilder can put 14k in a stadium and do 1 mil in ratings, Smith doesn't know what he's talking about. Like I said, he was stuck in the gentrified area of Brooklyn asking about Wilder. Smith has no idea what's going on here. Stop listening to these people who have no idea what they're talking about. Wilder is the #1 watched American fighter yet Smith is saying nobody knows Wilder.

i would say so... certainly earlier in his career. now he has the belt he seems less willing to unless he is forced by purse bid loss.

Did he have any complaints about traveling when he lost the purse bid? What fighter has he fought that would've made more sense to fight outside of America?

Adam Smith was in Brooklyn for fight week and if you watch the video, he said no one knew a fight was even happening in their home town. He then goes on to say that once the fight fans arrived the atmosphere improved, point being that Wilder has no wider relevance, whereas AJ does.

AJ in fact has become one of the faces of Gatorade in the UK, his poster is up on every bus stop across London (not sure about other cities) and his face was all over every betting shop in the country for the last week.

Wilder gets mistaken for a basketball player lol
I made a thread earlier about how AJ/Parker was front page in the Scottish sun... and all I got was "it's just Scotland doe", even though AJ is English and the fight was in WALES!

Americans don't realise the size of the event at all.

I'd wager only a small % of Americans know where Scotland is, and the ones that do probably watched Braveheart lol

Those 2 drugs cases changed the face of the division.

I feel bad too man, the WBC and WBA are supposed to be the most historically significant belts but Wilder has turned his into a joke.

Yeah, if we were to believe the Americans, big fights only happen in Vegas.
Yeah Murica is mecca of boxing, nobody cares about boxing there for 20 years but Murica man!
