    Wilder Deserves Respect

Never was a Wilder fan up until his last fight. He could have avoided Ortiz with a legitimate excuse that Ortiz is a drug cheat but he didn't. He took a tough fight and pulled through, he took some punishment and showed grit... I don't agree with everything he says and his resume isn't great, but he always comes to fight, always comes to knock you out, always pushes for a clean sport and always tries to hype fights.

It looks to me that people don't like Wilder because of 1) his fans or 2) he is a threat to their favorite fighter. If you don't fall under reason 1 or 2 then why would you not like the guy? what's your reason?

How amazing, 40 fights before taking on a threat. Jesus you guys have low expectations of fighters these days

Every fighter deserves respect, that doesn't mean people can't expect more of them, or be critical.

I've posted it in another thread but he had no amateur career to speak of so yeah his resume sucks for the early parts but is improving and his last fight was against a top 5 heavyweight.

Me and you both vigorously defend Golovkins resume because he had a hard time getting markee names to fight him, i am not looking to turn it into a resume thread on Wilder as his resume isn't great but he is fighting the best now and wants to fight the best going forward, can't really knock that down.

Agreed, but reading these boards makes you wonder how much respect fighters actually get.

I'd say he's getting exactly the respect he has earned. He is 40 fights into his career and hasn't fought a future HOF'er, or even someone who would have been considered a legit threat in the division a decade prior. And his boxing skills leave a lot to be desired.

I sometimes joke about fighters and I'm sure others do as well but at the end of the day these guys do something that is admirable. If someone doesn't respect them then they really shouldn't be taken seriously. I get you though, after awhile all the trolling and disrespect gets old
