He was even worse against Toney though, Ruiz just had a bad style for him, he rolled back the years against Rahman, and finished the fight with Byrd well, against Toney, he looked like an old car that had just stopped because the engine had finally given up. James Toney does not have the power to KO Evander Holyfield, unless he is well past it, which he was.
That's not giving Toney enought credit.
I think Holyfield could get in the ring with Byrd, Ruiz, Donald, or Rahman again and last 12 rounds.
Toeny is the only one of those fighters who beat Holyfield down. He went to the body, got in close, countered, and broke Holyfield down.
As old as Holy was, Toney deserves some credit for the manner in which he beat him.

Of course he deserves credit, he beat who was in front of him, and he beat him well, but the fact is, that it was a shadow of an Evander Holyfield. I still believe that was a much worse version of Holyfield than in those previous fights, he had a good first round against Toney, a sign of a shot fighter

I don't see how he was any worse than when in with Byrd, Rahman or Ruiz.
None of those fighters had Toney's style of taking him apart like Toney did.
And then he goes 12 rounds with Donald where he was never close to being in any danger.
No one said it was a monumental win, just more impressive than anyone who's beat Holyfield in years.
Nobody (outside of the 3rd Bowe fight) beats down and stops Evander Holyfield.

Did he even win a round against Donald? And look how Rahman dealt with Toney. Anyone of the top heavies would have won big against Holyfield on that ocassion IMO, Lewis, Klitschko, etc. Just a matter of opinion, Toney is no doubt a very talented fighter, but in my opinion any version of Holyfield beats Toney, except that version. He was at the right place at the right time.

No way.
The Cruiserweight and early Holyfield most likely beats Toney, but anything after is a very difficult fight.
Toney's work rate, defense and countering is a nightmare for Holyfield.
But that wasn't the point. The point was you taking issue with me saying Toney's win over Holyfield was much more impressive than anything in the preceeding few years.
That Holyfield was able to extend many good (relative term for this generation) Heavyweights the distance. Just over a year earlier Holyfield was outworking and tuning on Rahman.
Toney systematicly beat him down. He took away his heart with a blistering body attack and took the fight to him like many Heavyweights before were unable to do so.
I don't buy that he was suddenly ripe for that in one fight. That was Toney agressivly taking the fight to him and stopping him.
holyfield was a shell when he fought Ruiz, Rahman, Byrd and Donald, and he didn't get brutally beat down like he did in with Toney.
he wasnt as shot when he fought ruiz and byrd. thats when he was in his decline but went more steadily downhill since those fights. he was a total shell by the time he fought toney and donald and they both dominated him. he couldnt even throw a combination at that point
Please leave and find somwhere else to kill your time. You do nothing but illustrate your ignorance.
Someone once said a week is a long time in politics, and it's the same for boxing, thats all that needs to be said. The dog on the street knows Holyfield was shot to peices.
