How is he going to keep Peter from being physical?

Thats what I was thinkin, Peter seems strong as hell and we have yet to see how well Toney takes a flush shot from a big puncher. And its not like Toney can fight him on the outside like Wladimir did. But Peter cant box for **** at the elite level.

      Just think about it.
Rahman sent Toney to the hospital with bodyshots.
      Imagine what peter will do.

The key factors here are Peter's wide looping punches and his lack of stamina.

he's been 12 rounds once. If he's banking on taking Toney out with those telegraphed shots, it's going to be a long night.

I think he doesn't land early, tires as the fight goes on and loses a wide decision.

Peter is a nightmare for plodding easy to hit Heavyweights (which the division is full of)

Why he'd pick a small elusive target that can box, is beyond me.
Peter gassing out would definitely be a possibility, and I'd normally rip on Toney right now and try and point out that he's carrying alot of extra weight:

But seeing as how he threw as many punches as he did against Rahman, I think his stamina wouldn't be a problem.

I'd actually go so far as to say he's in better physical shape than Samuel Peter is. I don't see Toney breathing out of his mouth when it gets to the 3rd or 4th round, and his ability to throw punches in bunches on the inside is critical against Peter.

I could see Toney outclassing Peter using some lateral movement, and countering with the right hand, but he's dealing with a real heavyweight this time.

I don't think too highly of Rahman as a fighter, and I wasn't impressed with Toney fighting him, or that fight itself.

I am impressed by James Toney fighting Samuel Peter.

          Are you serious?

He was punching Toney on the same kidney for the entire fight. Not to mention Rahman threw over 1000 punches.

Take a look at the fight with Rahman.

Rahman is a power punching Heavyweight. Not as hard hitting as Peter, but a big pucnhing Heavyweight. Before the fight all he could talk about was how he was going to use his size and power to beat Toney.

Then he gets in the ring, doesn't take one step forward, and throws only a handfull of power right hands.

There was a reason for this.

Now you get Peter who's nowhere near as fast, accurate or busy as Rahman, who many of you seem to think is going to get Toney out of there with one or a few big shots?

Peter is compeltely out of gas after 6 rounds. He's never won a 12 round decision.

RWK, he won't be able to. Toney wasn't able to stop Rahman in his tracks and Peter is twice are durable and much, much stronger. Peter will simply outman him. You can know all the cute tricks in the book, have the eyes of an eagle and the reflexes of a bobcat, but **** with a grizzly bear and you'll still get ass****d.

Styles make fights but in this case the physical advantages Peter has over Toney, and Toney's BIG weaknesses at heavyweight (unimpressive strength and very weak hitting power) completely negate the discrepency in skill.

Except for the fact Peter telegraphs his wide looping shots, has poor stamina, and has been 12 rounds once and lost.

He's been past the 7th round 4 times.

Like I said Achellies, cash bet.

              What do you say?

Peter will throw, and throw bigtime.
If he goes headhunting, most likely he will lose.
However, if he can work to the body efficetivly, he has a chance to really hurt toney.

Achilles, do you really think Peter is much stronger than Rahman? theres not many stronger than Rahman, Lewis was a strong guy, and we seen Rahman getting the better of lewis in that studio argument.

We'll talk bets in a few months, when there's at least hearsay of what kind of shape the guys are in. Peter could come in 260 or something. I'll think about a cash bet come August, but I sure as hell wouldn't wager much. It'll be a small friendly bet, that's all I'm willing to do. It's not that I'm underconfident, it's just that I work too damn hard for my money to risk a big chunk of it. That and boxing is one of the least predictable sports of them all.

Peter's not known to work the body, he's slow, and as I just mentioned in the post above, has been past the 7th round just four times.

His lack of stamina is going to be the deciding factor here.
