Wilder was running out of gas against Ortiz, it's just that Ortiz had less gas.

To answer your question though, I don't know which is better.

you tink james toney is making 160 lbs for years without running?

think for a minute about that, please.
      Well I didn't say I believed it.

It sounds unlikely yes, like I said that is the first I have ever heard that.

But it wouldn't suprise me either considering he has never been in shape seemingly ever.

Deontay is cruising off pure talent. He needs to up His training if he wants to beat Joshua.
AJ might not be as gifted but he works his behind off in the gym

Wlad used to do more swimming than running for that reason (preventing injury and wear and tear on joints).

I can see some logic there, but like others say the benefits from running are more than swimming for boxing.

Ive always said that how relaxed you are and how explosive your style is play more of a part in your stamina for boxing than your physical condition (assuming you are in basic 'good' shape for a top athlete and not a complete pudding). The guys with the best stamina tend to be very relaxed and fight with a more aerobic style if that makes sense. Most, not all, but most, old school fighters from the 15 round + era would fight with a very efficient style, with little wasted movement, and not putting full force and speed into every punch.

Also, and this comes with the relaxation and mental calm, how well you breath during a fight. when you are tense it is natural to hold your breath or take short stuttered breaths when punching or defending. This will gas you out quicker than anything in my experience. Some of the fittest men at the gym will look out of shape, especially when they just start boxing, because they aren't breathing correctly, and visa versa an old pro who hasnt been in training can do rounds easily without getting tired.
