I understand ethnic pride or national pride, which is what drives World Cup Soccer. Cheer for your countrymen. Nothing wrong with that. But, this cheering for or hating on a fighter because of his race is telling. Floyd fans are most guilty of this from what I have seen in modern boxing. A good percentage of Wilder, Ward, Kovalev, fans too.
if you cheer on fighters based on race, youre a racist...

Oddly enough the thread started has been banned at least 3 times that I know of for making racist posts.Comment

people like the drama of it all, even though it brings out the worst.
Objective analysis of any situation requires patience and effort and time and thought.
it's just way more of a rush to throw someone under the bus for being a racist or just being racist yourself. and waaaay easier.Comment

Might want to look up the definition of racism, Rooting for someone because you identify with them ethnically is NOT racism. Thinking someone is an inferior human BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE IS.
See the difference?
I really hope you do.Comment

I guess it's just the way you grow up. My pops just liked watching boxing. He wasn't on some "I go for the Hispanic". He would just say who he thinks is going to win, and he would root for whoever the hell he likes.I am of that group that grew up rooting for so many different kinds of fighters. I'll even tell you a fighter who never understood how fans can only pick because of race, color, nationality. He is former light heavyweight contender Ice John Scully, a friend of mine from way back. 16 years ago he and I were shocked to see fans only root for fighters based on their racial profile. John and I started to see a pattern back on the AOL boxing boards and neither he nor I had ever pulled for a fighter because of racial bias so we were like WTF?? Learning this shocked the both of us at the same time some 16 years ago. 16 years to now I have seen it all, especially on these boards.
But i've met parents that hate black people, or darker people than them. And you gotta realize if you grow up in that environment, you'll share your parents thoughts. So a lot of these people, they just have that hate ingrained in them via their family. Can you really blame them? It's all psychological, decades of conditioning.Comment

I am Puerto Rican but that is my NATIONALITY, same if I was Mexican. My RACE is white, I am white skinned. I am a white Puerto Rican and very proud.
Same as a Black from Nigeria or Australia or USA. Same skin color, same race but nationalities are different.Last edited by The Problem Child; 03-14-2018, 11:57 PM.Comment
