On NSB he'd finish behind him. In polls of experts/media I am not sure.

Chavez is a great fighter. But if you watch the fights with Sweet Pea, Taylor and Randall and project him in with prime Floyd it's gonna be tough for Chavez IMO.

I could see Floyd getting a huge lead like Taylor but he would do much better at protecting the lead than Taylor did given he has a 6 inch reach longer than Taylor.

Pretty impressive for a guy who never beat another ATG in their prime.

sweet pea and randall were not fights where chavez was in his absolute prime..., and i would say that floyd could do the same as mel had he challenged himself in his own prime against a prime fighter the caliber as chavez...

A great win to daggum you just have to be a non Haymon fighter and preferably with Top Rank.

You know a fighter is great when all his dumbass detractors come up with criteria their own fighters can't match... no prime atg wins doe.

                  Yup.

Floyd didn't beat great opponents in their PRIME and in their best weight class. He beat guys who were over the hill and outside their best weight. Period.

Top 3 guys need wins over great opponents at their best. In their best weight class.

Also I think he has beaten more world champs than any fighter in history. But I could be wrong on that.
                    He was a great fighter.

You could certainly make a case on a H2H basis.

From SFW to LMW is stretching it though.

How many fights did he have at LMW?

There's many LMW's and WW's who could have beaten him.

Also, although he did beat a lot of named fighters, he never beat a prime ATG.

He doesn't possess the resume to be rated that highly under conventional criteria. But of course, you're entitled to your own opinion.

I'd have to have a think but he'd be top 5 for me, maybe top 3. Altho ugh the boxing hipsters will no doubt put some no namer who fought in 1910 before it was an international sport ahead of him.
