Just looked at Ortiz' and Laguna's records and I don't recognize a soul on any of them. How come none of those guys fought Duran? They were around at the same times.

Besides Locche, no? I do see a name on there, but none of you would recognize it. I know it because I knew a guy who fought the guy. Other than that, heard the name Buchanan, but never seen his fights.

Jesus lol. Ortiz is one of the top 10 greatest lightweights of all time. His resume is stacked. He's probably top 5 tbh. Laguna fought Flash Elorde, Ken Buchanan and Vincente Saldivar, don't you recognize those names ? Elorde is one of the great Filipino fighters. Buchanan is one of the great British fighters and Saldivar is one of the great Mexican fighters.

I've heard the name Buchanan around.Elorde, nah --- never heard of him.

Vincente Saldivar beat one name I recognize which is Sugar Ramos. Never heard of no Saldivar before.

Carlos Ortiz for me is by far and away the greatest Puerto Rican fighter of all-time and one of the top 5 in history at 135. He'd be in my personal top 20-25 ever period. His resume is excellent. Even the guys he fought (often on the road) who didn't make the hall of fame were excellent fighters.

The third Laguna bout was a masterpiece and last great performance. I wish the second fight was out there somewhere in addition to the first Elorde fight and second Ramos fight. He was the king of re-matches.

I remember I saw Mike Katz at a fight in Vegas a long time ago and we were talking about the great Latino fighters and I asked about Duran and he said "Are you crazy? Carlos Ortiz was the best!" or something to that affect.

I would put Ortiz probably third behind Duran and Benny Leonard but he has an excellent case for #1. I am not sure Duran would beat him and if he did I'm not sure he'd beat Ortiz in a series of say 3 fights.

Only person I'd consider to put ahead of him is B Leonard.

Just an amazing boxer during his prime.

Somebody(forget who right now)has a good little vid on their page of him just dropping his hands Sweet Pea style and just making him miss about 10 st8 jabs.Pretty to watch that kind of defence.
