And yea I'm with the TS. I wouldn't have a problem with a more severe penalty (50%?, 75%?) being put on guys who come in over so THEY are the ones who have to consider opting out of a fight vs now when the guy who has done everything right has to consider opting out of a fight for safety reasons/the risk of fighting someone who didn't hurt his body as much by losing weight.
Yeah I agree intentionally or unintentionally Quigg has gained himself an unfair advantage and a loss can really affect a fighter. I'd be pissed if I was Valdez and that may play into Quiggs hands fighting mad.

I disagree on that as head coach he is DEFF aware of his weight. And not letting Valdez people know was wrong. When you miss by that much YOU KNOW at LEAST a few days in advance. Now their is always exception's some guys who have been tight at weight for long time sometimes you body will just shut down at end of cut.But Quigg JUST moved up from 122 a year or so ago so I REALLY don't think that's the case here.

Agree 1000% but that wont happen because promoters/fighters want to be paid.I think the next best thing is to make it a MUCH LARGER PENETY like 50% of purse or more instead of just 20%

Really good point about putting choice on guy who missed. But he should still have to give up something even if he don't fight.Like 50-75 if he fights or he pays 10-20 of what he WOULD have made to pay for others guys camp.Idk but something MORE needs to be done.

SCOTT QUIGG'S world title dream is in tatters after the British boxer missed his weight. The 29-year-old is taking on WBO featherweight champions Oscar Valdez in California on Saturday night.

Now, you're talking about something else entirely and seriously now, how often do we see coaches have candid conversations about weight in the days leading to the fight? It doesn't work that way.

What happens when a guy is in that situation is that he either goes for it and drains, or his team decides it's too great a risk (health-wise) and prefers to keep their guy safe. The later is usually decided in the hours before the weigh-in. Placing all this on Roach is a big reach.

All that said, I DO think it's a big *** up on the part of Quigg and his team and there should be appropriate penalties.

Yea something more should be up for grabs. What it should be is debatable.

20% isn't even THAT much. And the effed up thing on top of that is the guy who gots to fight this person only gets 10% of the 20%. Which in this case is only 10k. So Valdez, who made $400k last time (would guess he's getting similar tomorrow) gets bumped up to $410k-ish potentially, but the risk he's taking is certainly bigger than a 10k risk.

And there is always the "well don't fight then if you are worried about this" argument, but giving up 400k over 2.8lbs is a bit of a extreme decision too, but clearly that 10k isn't a good enough penalty.

Damn looks like Valdez is getting effed over bigger than I thought.

Apparently Quigg is getting $500k with UK money, but his fine is only being taken out of his $100k official purse. Valdez should be getting $50k instead of $10k.
