Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz: You Must Give Wilder Credit, He Weathered The Storm

Barclays Center, Brooklyn - WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder survived a pummeling from Luis Ortiz, then knocked out the challenger in the 10th round Saturday night to retain his crown. Befitting the undefeated champion from Alabama, it was a wild affair for the final few rounds after a dull series of pawing and gesturing by Wilder gave Ortiz a solid lead.

Respect to Wilder in overcoming his best opponent + his worst round as a pro (the 7th, that Harold Sconiers round ain't got sh^t on the Ortiz rd 7).

But respect to Ortiz too. I was actually more critical of Ortiz coming into this fight then Wilder. I knew Wilder's negatives, but I felt too many fans were glossing over Ortiz's negatives. Ortiz impressed me a lot in this fight & I look forward to seeing him fight some other top guys in the division & I think he can beat a lot of these cats still. I'd love to see him take on the Joshua vs Parker loser for the #3 spot in the division in my mind. Or Big Baby would be a good one too.

Yes, you must give Wilder credit.

Too bad that dudes like mathed and Ghost Rider don't agree with you, Luis Ortiz, and refuse to show the man his deserved respect.

I like Ortiz after the fight I could see myself rooting for him. With that being said he gets no credit from me until the drug test results come back in.

              Both fighters deserve credit.

Ortiz came to fight and almost got Wilder out of there. I think he slowed down after he had Wilder hurt because he realized it wasn't going to be easy to get him of there. However, when he saw the opportunity in later rounds he was still trying to take Wilder's head off. Wilder was aware enough to roll with a lot of Ortiz's punches when he got hurt. Ortiz absolutely was trying to end the fight but Wilder held up.

It wasn't quite as good as the Joshua-Klitschko fight in terms of drama but this one was fought at a higher level in my opinion.

Klitchsko did the same against AJ. Maybe age was a factor, or the other guys just fought smart to fully recover.

I think the fights are very close. But AJ getting dropped and recovering is probably a little more compelling. Either way, it's remarkable how similar the arc of the fights played out.

When HWs are cracking, there's nothing like it.
