Someone in another thread posted a gif from overhead and the legs don’t touch.

I wouldn’t have argued it, wilder just backed off and then attacked Ortiz once he got up. Let your corner talk to the refs, no point yelling at him when you should be fighting

THE US has a serious problem and a lot of it is based on TV networks trying to hold onto limited resources. Very limited resources.

Like one of the posters said, if one judge had scored it for wilder you'd just shrug. But all three, finding him 2 more rounds for wilder? That's su****ious and just goes to show he'd never lose.

Its good that he got the stoppage.
I wish I could call you on the cobbles for impugning the integrity of the fine upstanding boxing officials in this land of the free, home of the brave.... Well I could but it would have to be for a comedy skit!

I don't watch a lot of fights across the pond but I believe you.

You know, I wasn’t even going to get into it, because it really doesn’t matter, but I was going to say something similar. You don’t see the fighters’ feet in that GIF. My guess is that Ortiz slipped just before the jab made contact. Looking closely at the clip, Luis drops as he delivers a left, but just before the jab lands, he takes a slight dip. It seems he lost his footing just before the punch landed. For whatever that’s worth, which is nothing. Lol

I didn't even score the fight cuz I was pretty confident the winner was gonna do so by KO, but I thought those first 4 rounds, the rounds that had the fight Wilder up by 1 vs Ortiz up by 3 (as some people had it), were rounds where lil happened & I could see an argument for Wilder winning a couple of them, as the judges had it (2-2 on each judges card) so its w/e to me.

Lotsa mfers like to ignore rounds aren't 100% clear wayyyyyyy too much. Or that their card is some biblical sh^t. Or they don't even grasp how scoring 1 round different gives you a 2 point edge so a closer fight looks too far apart in their mind cuz 116-112 just don't seem like two rounds scored different = a draw to them lol.

Whats really surprised me is how Germany and a number of east euro hot spots seemed to have cleaned up their acts. Across the WBSS and beyond, a number of top fights have been officiated really well.

This is the point, most scoring it, in particular those on TV, did not feel they were close rounds early on. Yes not much happened but one guy was CLEARLY throwing more, landing more, pushing forward, showing aggression and leading the charge. You don't win rounds by running backwards half way across the ring and not throwing punches.

They were pretty straightforward to score which is why the sky team, show and dan rafael among others had almost identical cards.

It seems like the people that thought Ortiz was way ahead had him pitching a shut out the fist 4 rounds.

Wilder clearly won round 2 even despite the ref waving off his knock down, 3-4 was a toss up with no clear winner. There were no 10-8 rounds for Ortiz.

Either way the right man was ahead, Wilder did get robbed of that knock down. I also noticed the commentators not acknowledging some of Wilder's repeated right hands but were going ape shyt over Ortiz' missed punches.

I thought it WAS pretty straight forward scoring EXCEPT those first couple rounds.

The first round I thought was Ortiz, but those other 3 I thought Wilder did less, but landed bigger punches so it was a volume vs impact choice there & where I can see some dispute.

And it wasn't much of a volume disparity in landed punches according to the stats (Ortiz landed 19 punches to Wilder's 18 punches in rds 2-4). Ortiz threw a lot more (90 to 80) so he looked busier, but looking busier doesn't win you rounds & neither should the movement of the action when neither guy is doing much of anything.

Personally I prefer volume over impact, but not every judge feels that way & considering that the judges agreed 100% on this fight EXCEPT the 2nd thru 4th rounds suggest thats where they disagreed vs there was something sketchy going on here.

Randomly I mentioned I was worried about the scorecards in this fight as we got into the later rounds, but honestly I thought Wilder being up by 1 at the time of the stoppage is within the margin of error of this fight. I suspected we'd have seen it WIDER if the "fix was in".

Just because the scoring didn't impact the decision the judges shouldn't get off free. This is where boxing needs to take control and suspend judges. Too often they wait until a fight has a controversial decision before they take action. Here you have everything you need to do this under the radar. Please for the sake of boxing do something about this!!
