Are you kidding me? Wilder was not using the jab in the 1st 7 rounds. He was using his left hand to push down Ortiz's right jab. That's why he struggled. Ortiz was also pivoting like crazy which made it difficult for Wilder to time him. Ortiz fought a little different than he normally does.

Also, the reason why Ortiz hurt Wilder was that Wilder threw a punch and got countered while throwing the punch. So, he did not see the punch coming. Those are the punches that hurt you the most, bro.

With all due respect, AJ does not hit harder than Ortiz. AJ is younger - that is his biggest advantage over Ortiz.

I'm not a Wilder fan and I've continually said he's a mess, but you insecure types have to use "fanboy" as ammunition because you got nothing else to back your argument.
You want to pretend Ortiz was garbage but everyone knows he looked great tonight. Wilder v AJ could definitely go either way but I favor Wilder at this point, now that I know his chin is far more solid than AJ's.

Lastly, Wilder needs to stop the crap of talking too much. He put too much pressure on himself going into this fight, thus hindering him in this fight. He was way too cautious for those 1st rounds and rarely used his jab against Ortiz. He was pushing Ortiz's jab down instead of firing his own.
Agree with everything here again, he did put a lot of pressure on himself but maybe that’s what motivates him. I personally don’t mind boxer talking trash because they are the ones taking the punches.

I really do believe he makes easy work of Joshua and that’s because he is more fluid that AJ, who for me is too static. The only downfall I see with Wilder would be him falling in love with his power, like you pointed out he ignored his jab and did nothing for a lot of the rounds.

For someone that has a great right hand you would think he would establish his left jab first.

AJ isn’t a Cuban schooled southpaw lmao. His jab will land on Joshua. And the right will say GOODNIGHT! Lol

That was a real feather in Wilder's cap tonight. Also props to Wilder, he waited to celebrate and was concerned he had hurt Ortiz...Hes a good young man with ethics and a strong heart. years down the line people will appreciate this fight, it was a great piece of heavyweight boxing...its been so long since the division had a puncher like Wilder, Tyson was the last one I can think of.
I've honestly been bored by boxing in the last 2 months and I almost skipped this one but this fight actually reinvigorated my interest. Not because Wilder won or anything, just because it was a real thriller of a fight. This is what boxing is about. The edge of your seat excitement.

About Wilder, I never thought much of his lunging head movement when he throws but seeing how Ortiz had such a hard time countering him solid, I'll give him credit for having a strength in that aspect. I can see an orthodox guy like AJ having a hard time adapting to that.

That is my thought, too. Joshua would be a lot easier for Wilder to hit.

Wilder looked like his wild and silly looking self again against an over-hyped opponent that Wilder himself contributed to the build up of. He kept praising him as KING KONG and IM GONNA KNOCK OUT KING KONG and we all knew Ortiz is just an average heavyweight that won't be remembered as anything other than a contender.
Wilder still didn't impress me other than showing he has more of a chin than I thought, but he still looked just as bad as I've always seen throwing punches.

Yeah he looked great against a guy who looked like **** against Spzilka and Washington until the finish, that was to be expected, I said Ortiz would make Wilder look silly just like the others did..... the thing is, Ortiz is 38 years old, inactive and hasn't fought competitively in 2 years.... I was arguing with Juggernaut the other day that skills are not enough, you need stamina, and to be active and proven before you go into fights at world level or even against a guy like Wilder who can overwhelm you..... Ortiz is not fresh, active, fit or good enough to implement his "skills" over 12 rounds and beat Wilder....obviously.

He's unproven and no one even knew if he could maintain 12 rounds now.... I guess I was right... again
