focusing on one route is the best way to get a title shot.

his current course gets him a title shot the quickest, against the unified champ, and for the most money. seems like a no brainer.
of course, i get all that part.

I'm simply saying that any fighter worth his salt shouldn't be saying "he's not on my radar" about any top fighter in the division, even if he's going another route.

Porter has never said anything to even hint that he would be willing to fight Spence if things opened up. He just completely shuts the idea down.

Why should we criticize him for being honest? He's the mandatory for Thurman. He's not ranked by the IBF. He has a guaranteed shot at Thurman and no shot at Spence. His sole focus is getting revenge of Thurman. He's desperate to get revenge on Thurman. Nobody else is on his radar other than maybe Garcia since beating Garcia for an interim title gives him a better split against Thurman.

I respect Porter's approach a lot more than fighters who list a bunch of names they have no intention of fighting.

And let's face it, win or lose against Thurman, Porter vs. Spence becomes very likely. If Porter loses to Thurman again, he's shut out of the WBC & WBA for a while and becomes a likely candidate to fight Spence. If Porter beats Thurman, than a unification with Spence is a virtual guarantee.

All of these fights are going to happen! Just not as fast, or in the order, that hardcore fight fans would prefer. You can't allow hardcore fight fans to steer the ship. That will put you out of business quickly. Things need time to build and hardcore fight fans complaining during that build is a big part of what helps spread the word.

Dude, all these guys would fight anybody if it made business sense. Nobody is scared of anybody. It's about dollars. Why would Porter hint at Spence when he knows Spence isn't happening this year no matter what? Porter wants to do everything possible to make sure Thurman must fight him. He's chasing revenge and the biggest pay day. Good for him.

Spence fights the way Porter wishes he did. I think he knows it's a sure loss.
