Comments Thread For: Porter: I Think Right Now Thurman is Better Than Errol Spence

As for Spence, Spence isn't available. He has a mandatory due and Porter isn't even in the IBF's top 15. It's not Porter's fault that you have no idea how fights get made.
Porter is Thurman's mandatory. Thurman is #1 in the division. Thurman is the unified champion and brings the most money to the table.
Why in the world would Porter give up his guaranteed shot? Doesn't make any sense. At least with the Garcia fight, if Porter won, he'd be interim champion, still have a guaranteed shot, and be entitled to a higher percentage. But to give that up to go chase Spence would be absolutely ludicrous.Comment

If Porters still being trained by his father, he won't beat Thurman EVER. The ultra head ****in' grapplin' fiasco that he pounced on Berto with was nothing short of a disqualification......if he's coming a 2nd time at Thurman with this new improved MMA forehead smash technique, then all Thurman has to do months in advance is request a ref that won't tolerate the foolishness, then Thurman can pretty much dismantle the wildness like he did before......
Any fighter can choose to call out ANY fighter he wants in his division whether mandatory or not......its to send the mssg,"I'm here to take on all comers - ALL strap holders - the best of the best - to PROVE I'm the better." ...Calling out only a select few while just commenting on the other top dogs/dog is tantamount to dodging.....NO ONE can pick up a single ounce of desire in Porters demeanor that suggests he'd like to try Spence - not even in sparring......Comment

Porter still needs to fight someone and stay active, and Porter can call out Spence too. It’s not rocket science. Do you think Spence would welcome Porter to a fight if he rants in wanting it?Comment

Thurman is scheduled to fight the month before Spence.
So the wait for Thurman might actually be shorter than the wait for Spence.
Not to mention the fact that Porter has a guaranteed shot at Thurman and we have no idea if he can get a shot at Spence.
Haymon is in control of a lot of this. There's a reason Porter is WBC #1 and IBF unranked.Comment

What do you mean by "should"?
If you mean it's a fight you'd like to see, I won't argue against that. Everyone should want whatever they want. It's a fight I'd like to see as well.
But if you mean the wise career move is for them to fight this year, it might be wise for Spence, but it wouldn't be wise for Porter. He has a guaranteed shot at a more lucrative fight, against the #1 guy in the division, for the two most important belts in the division.
Why would Porter want the fight for less money and fewer belts? Doesn't make any sense.Comment

If Thurman keeps winning, he's going to fight all of these guys. He's just not going to fight them all in a row. Tune up in May. Then likely Porter. Then an easier fight. Then Spence. Winner of that takes easier fight and then fights Garcia, etc. Haymon is going to have major welterweight title fights for years and years to come. He's not going to just blow right through all of them in a year or two. Not how he operates.Comment

It is my opinion that Keith "One Time" Thurman has fought tougher opponents.
What I don't like about Errol Spence is that he has never seen the 12 round and he has only seen the 11th once.
Thurman has a lot of experience in the later rounds!Comment
