Sugar Ray Leonard or Roy Jones Jr....who was better?

Norris wasn't coming off a loss going into the Leonard fight. He was one of the top young fighters in boxing at the time and Leonard was an inactive 34 year fighter. If you're going to hold that against him then you can't ignore Jones getting knocked silly by Tarver and Glen Johnson.

Also, the Duran fight was a competitive action fight. Leonard didn't just get his ass kicked all night as you implied.

Julian Jackson had called Leonard out and Leonard never fought him. Leonard instead fought Norris and got his butt whooped.

Jones actually does have an official win over Tarver and has a win over Hopkins, the man to also beat Tarver. We cant say the same for Leonard having a win over Norris.

Five fights and two years before the Leonard fight and in between that Norris won a championship belt. That's not coming off a loss no matter how you choose to look at it.

Also, what Jr middleweight was better than Norris at that time? Jackson was a middleweight in 91.

We can also say that Leonard didn't get knocked out multiple times if you want to play that game. Resume wise it's not even debatable that Leonard beat better fighters.

Based on they're skill and my elite level of talent recognition: Roy Jones Jr. is probably the best Boxer skill wise of all time. Robinson and Jones share #1 and #2 on being the real TBE.

Roy did things in the ring that have never been done before or ever will be. For me he ranks above SRL and Mayweather. Anyone who thinks Tarver beat a prime Jones or counts any losses against him post-Ruiz didn't follow him in the 90s.

Michael Nunn at MW.

Now that would have been a very difficult match up for Jones. Michael Nunn was not only a south paw but also a defensive wizard in his prime. It would have been a very highly competitive and scientific bout between two natural counter punchers.

In the end however; Nunn's lack of punching power, tendency of trading toe to toe without moving his feet and coupled that with Roy's ability to adjust; Probably would have given Jones the edge. Eventually, he would have caught up to Nunn and perhaps even stop him just as James Toney did.

it was a washout...if hopkins wasn't as tough as he was and didn't have the chin that he has, roy would have stopped him or outclassed him as badly as he did to james toney....a one handed roy at that...

the rounds that they gave to bernard were the rounds that roy didn't do much in, and bernard definitely didn't carry enough one punch power to make roy do anything any different than what he did...bernard just made the fight ugly...

the fight at the time held absolutely no significance until bernard forged his own legacy...swept under the rug...most of you cats probably had to youtube it

unlike ray, jones career was without all the retiring and unretiring...i have a lot more respect for that
