The difference between "ducking" GGG & ducking Spence

When fighters were "ducking" GGG they all had the same excuse: MONEY!

Remember, these are the guys who paid Monroe Jr $100k to headline an HBO show in front of a sold out arena. Like Virgil Hunter said, everybody they paid has fought him.

Garcia, Porter, & Thurman know they're gonna get paid well to fight Spence. More than any GGG B-side opponent has ever made. The reward will be worth the risk but they still wont fight him. That's fear.

Cotto and Canelo were ducking GGG insisting they weren't real middleweights even though they were both MW champions. Quillin was content to allow Haymon to shield him from GGG. When GGG offered to drop down to 154 for Floyd, he was told not a chance. Martinez didn't want any part of him either.

No one is ducking Spence just yet. If, by early 2019 Thurman, Garcia or Porter have not fought him, then yes they are in fact ducking him. No excuses, especially since they are all signed under Haymon.

And HBO has always been accommodating to the top MWs.

          And the 100k monroe deal????

          I don't believe that.

          Even Proxa got 200k+

Jacobs got 1.8mil for their fight and he had to twist their arm to get that!

You had Loeffler on one hand saying GGG is an international superstar selling out arenas all over the world. So guys were asking to get paid like they were fighting an international superstar and Loeffler was offering HBO BAD money

It's always about the money, man. The fighters themselves may have the egos and want the belts and the glory for it's own sake, but underneath it all there's always the green. These dudes (not to mention the managers and promoters who actually make the fights) aren't afraid but if they think they've got a good chance of losing they want to get paid more. The difference between WW (and in fact with the US dominated divisions 140 - 154) and the MW of the early 'teens is that guys like Garcia, Porter and One Time can get decent paydays anyway... Spence ain't gonna make it into a superfight yet they're gonna have to give him a bigger part of the cake.

Like you say, when Golovkin paid enough, guys fought him, but as long as there were other, more lucrative options - or at least lucrative enough options - the bigger names (such as there were) had no need to fight him. Same rules apply, just the pay scales were different.

It's all about risk and reward, man. Always has been. Dudes talking about top level fighters being cowards or 'scared' are children living in some WWE fantasy of 'goodies' and 'baddies'.

                  Nope, they really ducked Golovkin.

Now that he is getting old, all of them are growing balls.
