All fighters lose some degree of popularity during retirement. Even ATGs like Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, JCC, Duran, etc., have lost some of their popularity post-retirement. It's inevitable.
Will Floyd Mayweather Jr. be seeing a steady drop in popularity during retirement?

Like with all other generations, the Sport moves on with their new stars. Fans of the moment can't fathom the idea that Floyd won't be AS relevant in the years to come but it happens with everyone. Think of kids that are 5 years old today and how they'll look at Floyd when they're 15 years old. They'll look at Floyd like "The Old Guy" IF they even know who he is by then (we're living in an era where kids literally don't know who Jay Z, Nas and Wu-Tang are). It happens in EVERY era. Once Floyd physically can't fight anymore and he fully, fully retires there's really nothing to get excited about when it concerns him unless you like his IG posts of him reminding us he's a wealthy guy.

the woman beater *Floyd will have the same number of idiots who continue to follow and support a woman beater, won't matter.
if anything you're aiding in the woman beater *Floyd staying relevant since you brought up his name once again. you want something to fade, stop bringing it up.Comment

this has probably been asked but, how long after an athlete retires are fans supposed to be as excited for that retired athlete ?
i mean, what are we supposed to be excited over ????
me, im not a fan of an athletes lifestyle.....just his performance in said sport.Comment

Yes - Floyd netted so much money from PPV's NOT because he was popular, but because he was loathed.
So many people paid in hopes of seeing HIM LOSE (which to his credit, he never did - mad props), NOT to see him triumph in glory. Sure, he has his fans, but most of his fans aren't the type of people who can afford his minimum 3k dollar tickets, and 100 dollar PPVs (not by themselves - they have to get a bunch of ppl to split it)..
Ask yourself this: Why is it EVERY TIME Floyd fought in his adopted hometown, and backyard of Las Vegas, the opposing fighter, whether it be Maidana from Argentina, or Marquez from Mexico, or Hatton from England, was ALWAYS THE MORE CHEERED/WELL-LIKED FIGHTER..
So the fact that Floyd's "popularity" and marketability rested on him being a villain, will hurt him in retirement.
Having an echo chamber on Twitter of "he young, doe" Adrien Broner type of people, will make it hard for Floyd...Comment
