How could a bum beat Benn and Watson? There’s so much garbage spouted on this message board, I imagine half of you have never even watched a Eubank Snr fight.Comment

Well...both Eubank Sr. and Groves were/are B Level fighters at their best....so edge to Eubank Sr....but I say flip a coin, mateys!
For scale and to turn the knife...Andre Ward COMPLETELY OUTLEAGUES and TORTURES both of them...along with their nationalistic garbage fans' lives and souls...Comment

Anyone who calls Eubank Snr a bum really doesn't know **** about boxing.
I would fancy Eubank snr in his prime to wear down and catch up to an exhausted Groves late and wipe him out. Similar to Mike McCallum v Michael Watson.Comment

SMDH
Dos Santos was #1 ranked when they fought. Hand picked? Eubank took the top of the food chain when it was available, just like Crawford did against Indongo. Don't blame the fighters, blame the matchmakers.
"At the end of the day..."
Eubank at that time in his career was a beast and Groves wouldn't have survived 6 rounds. Remember, this is the guy Froch tucked in for the night. TWICE.Last edited by Combat Talk Radio; 02-16-2018, 08:55 AM.Comment

I’d pick Groves to beat Eubank Sr and I’m actually a fan of Sr, Sr was a great personality and great for british boxing but was a very limited B level fighter if we’re being completely honest. I think Groves outboxes him but wouldn’t be surprised if Sr caught up to him and stopped him late, cause we all know how unreliable Groves’ gas tank is.Comment

I agree with the 'Saint' George Groves, he beats Eubum sr.
Eubum sr. was average: Nunn, Barkley, Toney, and Jones were top of his class. George Groves has reached a higher degree than the Eubanks being the #2. SMW champion of the world ; granted the division is very weak compared to Eubums time but unlike Eubum sr., George has been trying to fight the names that matter....with the exception of his son E.U.bum jr. I really don't know how he is ranked so high.
I agree with a fair bit of that. Eubank Sr. was a decent and very tough fighter, no doubt but history judges him more kindly, especially in the UK, because he was a character and flamboyant and was involved in some big domestic scraps.
The truth is that he really wasn't on a higher level than the likes of Groves when it comes to world level boxing. Maybe around that level. The name of Eubank Sr. is greater than his actual ability.
Not saying he wasn't a good fighter, he was, but for someone who talks about being a warrior, he certainly was well aware of his limitations and level and never pushed to fight the very best guys. He was more than happy doing his own thing v weak opponents or big payday domestic fights. Can't say that about Groves, i think he would jump in the ring with anyone, win or lose.
A lot of people don't want to hear it though because they have rose tinted glasses about some sort of golden era with domestic dust ups in the UK, so they're blind to the fact that some guys like Eubank were not real top fighters like they're portrayed.Last edited by TheBigLug; 02-16-2018, 09:17 AM.Comment

Greened for being honest and giving Eubank the correct grade...
One of the best posts of this year so far....thank you for knowing and sharing The Truth about Eubank Sr. and his actual level...I agree with a fair bit of that.
