Comments Thread For: Gassiev: I'll Do Everything To Make an Excellent Fight With Usyk!

IBF, WBA cruiserweight world champion Murat Gassiev of Russia promised "an excellent fight for everyone" with WBO, WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine. On February 3 in Sochi, Gassiev knocked out Yunier Dorticos of Cuba by TKO in the twelfth round to unify the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Association (WBA) titles, and in the process he earned his place in the final bout of the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

Wow, I had to google that.

Not gonna lie, I always thought it was spelled and pronounced 'twelf'. Now it actually makes sense when I see it typed as 12th (EDIT: Or is it typed as 12fth?), I know where the 'th' comes from now.

Anyway this fight is going to be insane - it's like when 2 teams play each other in a grand final and the atmosphere and pressure is so damn heavy.

The more I think, the more I am leaning Gassiev. Usyk is the goods, but Gassiev was near perfect against Yunier Dorticos and took those hard shots well. Usyk is a much better boxer than Yunier Dorticos but lacks the power. I honestly see Gassiev pressuring Usyk unlike any other Usyk opponent has been able to do. I am a huge Oleksandr Usyk fan. He is a fighter and will throw everything at him, varying both his attacks and his angles. But, Gassiev is about his equal in skills and has more power.

Give me a few weeks. I will talk myself into picking both fighters like 4 more times.

In the same boat basically, but I just think Gassiev will be Usyk's kryptonite - though I'd prefer Usyk to win

I think Usyk will be awkward and multidimensional for Gassiev. Dorticos was a one-dimensional textbook opponent for Gassiev. Usyk may win this.

Usyk will school Gassiev. After the fight you will say that Gassiev was overhyped by beating old & shot Lebedev and Wlodarczyk and one dimensional Dorticos. Usyk on the other hand beat better opponents in their home countries and even home cities. Glowacki and Briedis both Top 5 Cruiserweights and in their absolute prime. Usyk beat them at home to capture 2 World titles.

Let's hope that doesn't happen because there is no shame in Gassiev losing to someone as exceptionally talented as Usyk. Especially when considering he is only 24 years old and not at his absolute peak yet. Maybe they can get a rematch in the future at heavyweight? Who knows?

Exactly. Plus Usyk will fight at a very high pace which Gassiev is not used to fight. Even Briedis started to breath heavily since mid rounds when he felt Usyk´s pace. Usyk´s workrate will be also too much.

Just watch Usyk vs Medzhidov at WSB. Thats how Usyk will fight against Gassiev. Gassiev will miss a lot of shots and will be tired my mid rounds. I won't be surprised if Usyk stops Gassiev late due to exhaustion .
