  • Where does Roy Jones rank?

Now that his career has ended, where do you rank Roy Jones Jr. all time?

  • #2
a midrank ATG. He'd be higher but you gotta deck him a few places for being caught on PEDS once.

a hell of a lot worse than he would be if he retired 10 years ago.

He shoulda wrapped it up after the first tarver fight...it was clear he was never gonna be the same after the move to hw. Either that or he shoulda had a few more hw fights.

I'd think he probably rates somewhere between 30-40 all-time.

I only judge Roy Jones as a fighter by his fights up to his fight with Ruiz. After he beat Ruiz and returned to 175 he was never as good as before and his chin was no longer nearly as good. I think the prime Roy Jones rates very near the top as one of the best boxers in history. The list of outstanding boxers he beat during his best years and the ease with which he beat them is impressive.

Top 10 easy, anyone who’s actually watched and studied the greats of boxing would agree. I personally have him 6th on my list of Greatest fighters. I.E what they accomplished and how they performed relative to their era’s.
In terms of best fighter of all time, in terms of pure talent and raw ability I have him number #1 and I don’t even think it’s debatable.
A prime Roy was the closest thing there’s ever been to unbeatable. There’s no fighter fighter from history, you could logically pick to be the favourite in a matchup against a prime Roy.
I’m grateful I got to witness his career.
