But the way he got off against De la Hoya was really, really late even for Hopkins. He seemed uncertain until the middle rounds and failed to impose his will in the manner that he usually did with his prior opponents (from the third or fourth round up). His well-honed skills were flashed intermitently in the early rounds becoming more frequently displayed beginning in the 6th but the Hopkins WILL appeared to have gone on leave all throughout the fight. The Hopkins psychological make-up that was always evident in his demeanor in previous fights appeared to have been absent when he faced Oscar. He WAS ****y (though NOT HOPKINS-****Y) when he came unto the ring apron, but the ****iness disappeared when the bell sounded.

That's right BH really got off very very late on this one. In my eyes it was already round six when he started to impose his will on DLH. That was the round that I saw the HOPKINS that I know.

Hopkins isn't going to go up in weight, that would be ******, come on now....He's smarter than that, or at least he seems to be. If anyone is going to beat him, I think that they are going to have to come to his level to do so. Hopkins did start off slow due to Oscar not fighting the fight he said for several months he expected him to fight. The slow start I also believe, could also be attributed to Oscar's inability to hurt Nard with his punches. They were fast as hell, but looked very soft when landing. DLH needs to leave the middleweights, that's the 2nd time he's been outpowered by a large margin.

Nard vs. Tarver? Should be a good fight. Most boxers have problems fighting southpaws, so Tarver does have an advantage. And Tarver seems to be a pretty strong guy, so Nard would have to take a different approach with his rough house fighting. That will not be a slugfest, I'm sure. If anything, I think it'll be more technical, which I don't have a problem with, but others seem to hate.

I honestly dont think Tarver can come down to Nard's weight so if anybody wants to see them fight Bernard will have to go up.

Tarver walks around at 215 hahahaha he cant get down to 160.

Roy has a chance to get down to that I believe.

I agree i don't think Tarver would get down to 160 which would mean they may have to meet at Super Middleweight. Would Tarver be able to fight for Bernards titles at that weight?

I'm not sure if they could still use those belts for that fight.

I think Bernard and Tarver wont be the two fighting because Roy is gunna be Tarvers ass in the rubbbermatch.
Also Hopkins wants Roy because thats the last person he lost too and really the only person considering the first loss was ****ed up.

He wants to retire on a win against Jones but hes dreaming be cause he is not near fast enough.

Hopkins gained more than a W in his meeting with Oscar; he ensured that, more than being enshrined at Canastota after he hangs up his gloves, he will be remembered by this generation of boxing fans and even be known by many of the generations yet unborn. Hagler, in his time, was a sure bet for the Hall of Fame, but until he met Leonard, his sterling performance could have passed with merely the slightest notice. How many of the great ones whose names are etched in stone in Canastota, deserving to be remembered, are now forgotten? Who ever remembers featherweight Baby Arizmendi, lightweight Billy Edwards and welterweight Jackie Fields? Only rabid boxing fans, and only very few of them. All three were among the inductees to the Hall in the Pioneer category June this year. When he bashed Tito to the canvass after convincingly piling up points in the previous rounds, Hopkins' name came into the sphere of the awareness of casual fight fans and became a headliner of contemporary boxing buzz. With his punch to De la Hoya's liver, he made the bid that the legend woven about him will be even better than that of Hagler who after all lost, officially, to Leonard (controversy, notwithstanding). Losing to Roy Jones in a second meeting? And/or to Tarver? It wouldn't matter. Only Rocky Marciano never lost a title match. Losses to Jones and Tarver (if those happen) shall only be smidgens on Hopkins' legend.

I said Hopkins should stay away from Tarver/Jones because he will get dominated. I would love to see this. Hopkins will cash in again but will take a beating.

Hopkins defence is about a million times' better than Roy Jones' - Jones has never been good at defense - He's been able to rely on his amazing relfexes and athletic abilities and now he's lost a step or two - The Tarvers of this world come along when at the end of his career and expose that he needs to re-asses his defense.

Hopkins from Saturday night would never get caught like Roy did in his fight with Tarver.

Tarver is not exactly granite chinned either, Hopkins has a shot, he's an underdog, but he has a shot.

who is the real Heavywieght champ...no one?...For the first time in my life I don't know. I have to think about it. Well there's a case for....hmmmmm..select from a list of bums, save James Toney and Chris Byrd(a master boxer but really a blown up middle)...When I was a kid EVERYONE knew who the champ was.
This new Russian monster will be a box office drawer though because of his size he is a curiousity that u can bet HBO will exploit but IMO will be a splash in the pan...Talent level out of ten...maybe 5)
I am new to this forum so I am a little green however I have read some imput from some other folks and was stunned to see that some people believe that Liston DIDN'T take a dive in the second fight. That's just silly and that Mike Tyson could beat Tarver(and I am no big fan of Tarvers)...Mike's had it folks...deal with it.One more thing PPV for Jones/Hopkins?! Not from me.Although a Traver/Hopkins would be a good fight and even at fourty yeras old.. I'd pick Bernard.
