Comments Thread For: Roach: Joshua Has To Lose Some of That Muscle To Beat Wilder

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) has packed on too much muscle for his own good. When Joshua made his pro debut in October of 2013, he weighed 230-pounds and he's been as low as 229.

Agreed. AJ isn't beating Wilder on power. He'll do it with skill, out-boxing him. The bulk is just a hindrance to that.

I wouldn't say "he has too". I might be the only one who likes all the heavies at least somewhat. The division is exciting, with a lot of fighters with skill, speed, or power but none are really tested.

I dont pick them to win but I wouldn't be surprised if Ortiz and Parker won.
I didn't like Fury, until this hiatus. Now he's the only thing missing from the heavies. 1st and foremost. To me, Tyson is the champ still but only if he looks good in his next fight or two.

Plus the winner(Usyk) and maybe the runner up (Dorticos or Gassiev) will move up also. Most definitely Usyk will!

        There's great matchups at HEAVY.

            Lose Some of That Muscle

Roach let it be known that Wilder is dangerous in all rounds. No stamina issues with him. Klitschko did not hit Joshua with body shots. Wilder will if they fight. Wilder is not the one to tire against. It is certainly a fight I would pay to see. There will be fireworks for as long as the fight last.

Freddie always wrong these days. Gives me more certainty that AJ destroys Wildher.

Joshua needs to either improve his stamina or simply knock out Wilder in 6, it's his choice.

I'm just curious to see the speed disparity. That's where those muscles could come back to haunt him. Wilder moves really fast and AJ struggles at timing right hands. There's a video of him at Mayweather's gym talking about not picking up on WK's right hand combo until late in the fight. That was weird to me b/c WK had been opening every round with the same shot. That's the only reason I think Wilder has a real shot to win.
